Firedog's Review of LaserMax Gen. 4 Guide Rod Red Laser Sight for Glocks

The First thing I noticed it that the battery end of the this laser is a cheap plastic piece. I have Tritium Night Sights on my Glk19 G4 and this laser was way off the mark. The point where your iron sight picture and the laser dot comes together should be at approximately 30 feet. I was lollipoping my target off the end of my iron sights at 30 feet, with all three iron sight dots in alignment, however the laser dot was shining about 5 inches over my 3in splatter birch circular target which was stuck on a plain piece of 18x35 paper. The hits were on target using the iron sights with the laser dot over the target. If I moved the laser on target, the hits were under the target. It wasn't until the target was moved in and was around 2 yards away, before the laser and the iron sights were on target together as were the hits. Using the laser without using the iron sights at 30 feet the hits were still under the target and the further out the target was set, the worse the situation got. There is also no way to manually reset or set this laser for either windage or elevation, as it is preset at the factory for 30 feet. Now this sight might work well for stock Glock sights, I don't know, but I wouldn't recommend it for use with any after market sights. The other thing that I noticed is that it is why too easy to activate this laser and you should be extreme caution while holstering it in order prevent activation.
Pros:
  • good concept
Cons:
  • Lack of practical application
Best Used for:
  • Practice and not personal protection
