Legacy Reviewer's Review of LaserMax Laser Sight for Full Size Beretta 92/96 and Taurus 92/99/100/101

There are several reviews on these internal Lasermax pistol products. Most buyers claim it is an amazing product but mine was quite the opposite. Going back, I see many 5 star reviews are from shooters that were initially impressed, but we never see the follow-up from field-testing. Someone actually said in a review that they were excited about the laser and they thought it would make them shoot better. Really? These one or two line reviews cannot be trusted.

Right off the bat the sight was easy to install. Literally took me about 2 minutes to install once I spent 5 minutes reading the manual. However, after that I encountered some fatal issues that resulted in more product research and my returning of the Laser for a full refund from OP. Not their fault.

The sight blinks, as stated, but I didn't know it was going to stay like that. I would prefer a constant, solid laser. I get the concept of peripheral view, and that a blinking light allows your eyes to pick up the laser from the corner of your eye. But, if I need to pull my pistol in a stressful situation I'm going to have my eyes fixated on that dot anyway. Also the button is a little small and requires more pressure than I would expect to turn it on. This activation versus CT's grip lasers shows that CT has a more intuitive design (works with your natural grip squeeze).

Then I did a sight picture test. Remember these sights are "factory zeroed" at approx. 20/25 yards. Well mine didn't look like it. I did a visual test, it made me think my Beretta's sights were off. Well, I knew they weren't because I have shot it before, and they're dead zero accurate. The laser was pointing a little high and to the left @ 20 yards. Didn't change much from 15 to 25 yards, it was still high left. I tried pulling the slide back to turn the laser to see if that would help (laser is not adjustable), but if you turn the sight it just unscrews the battery cap (there are two pegs on the cap that keep the laser flush against the chambert portion of the barrel). This did not help. So at this point I was discouraged and took it to the range anyway.

I set up my targets at the range, and no matter how many shots I took, my groups were about 5/6 inches to the right of the dot every time (remember I noticed my sight was a little high and to the left). I turned the laser off, began using my iron sights and they were dead on, groups looked much better. I understand 5 or 6 inches when aimed at center body mass is still OK, but I couldn't do anything about the aim. No adjustments, just have to live with it. For the price I better get some accuracy.

This trip to the range was an indicator that A) my sight picture test in my house ended up being a clear indicator of how the range visit was going to turn out. B) we cannot trust factory zeroing and C) there was no way I could fix this besides returning it to the factory for a replacement.

I don't recommend factory zeroed products, I will always stick with adjustable from here on out. It was appealing that this product has a claim of "set it and forget it." I was looking forward to it. I was also expecting it to be a lot beefier/better for $345.

Like I said before, you cannot trust one or two line reviews with all stars. You also cannot trust factory zeroed products. These types of purchases either work or they don't. We don't have facilities that allow us to try before you buy so thank God we have OP with their ironclad return policies to save us the heartache from purchases like this.

I will probably be going with laser grips for my 92FS. Watch Crimson Trace's videos, you'll see how accurate their sights can be.
Pros: Genius design. About as low-profile as tactical attachments can be.
Cons: Price is ludicrous. Factory zeroing but not on MY gun. Blinking light. Mine is inaccurate. Trust me.
