Russ's Review of LaserMax CenterFire Laser Sight w/GripSense for Sig Sauer

The LaserMax GripSense for the Sig Sauer P365 arrived from Optics Planet in the factory package WITHOUT the battery door. I don't believe Optics Planet was at fault. I contacted LaserMax and got excellent customer service as they sent me a new battery door immediately. I mentioned to the customer service representative that I had seen reviews where the battery door comes off while shooting. The customer service representative said that shouldn't happen if the door is properly placed on the laser sight with a positive click. However, the battery door comes off occasionally just doing practice draws. I examined the battery compartment and didn't notice anything broken. Maybe I just got a faulty one.
There are also fewer holster companies that make a holster for the LaserMax GripSense Sig Sauer P365 combination. I ordered a holster from "Just Holster It" that works with the combination. If I had not ordered the holster already I would have returned the LaserMax GripSense specifically because of the battery door issue. The Arma Laser is similar but uses a screw to secure the battery door. Otherwise the LaserMax works like it's supposed to.
Also I had previously thought that I could turn off the laser for practice draws to save the battery but you can't. Apparently most of the grip activated lasers sights are like this. You can only turn it off with the buttons after you initially grip it or it automatically goes off when you reholster it. I removed the battery for practice, but without the battery there's no spring tension on the battery door and it comes off even more easily. I resorted to practice draws with the battery door removed. I have not tried it at the range yet. In summary I don't hate it but I can't recommend it because I wouldn't get it again.
Pros:
  • works like it's supposed to
  • Good price from Optics Planet
  • Looks good on a P365
Cons:
  • Battery door does not hold not dependable.
  • Can't turn off to practice
