Mike's Review of LaserMax Guide Rod Laser Sights for SiGARMS Pistols

Congratulations, If you're looking for a really unique and awesome gift you found it.

I've never been a fan of lasers, or scopes but this laser that i received as a gift is freekin awesome. It took about a minute or less to install this model laser without any experience or tools... worked right out of the box and has kind of changed my perception about this type of product.

Presentation... The laser comes in a nice little metal box that can be gift wrapped... There is no way to tell what it is by shaking the box and they'll never guess what's in the box... if they guessed right, you or someone said something about it, they asked for it or someone spilled the beans...

This laser comes in 3 parts, the laser guide pin itself, a new spring and the takedown lever. To install, i didn't have to read the instructions... i dropped the mag and cleared the chamber making sure that there are no bullets in it first. with the upper receiver locked in the rear position, you turn the takedown lever vertical and remove the upper receiver that holds the guide pin/spring and barrel. i took my thumb and applied pressure to the right side of the P220 wiggling the lever back and forth until it came all the way out... there aren't any retainer springs or anything like that, it's just a real close tolerance. pulled the laser takedown lever out and slid it back in the same way just rotating/wiggling it a bit back and forth until it was all the way in and vertical... pulled the pin and spring out and popped the new one in... once the gun is reassembled and the takedown lever is rotated in line with the barrel, it won't slip out and the back of the pin sits in a little groove cut into the takedown lever...

To turn the laser on, you push the little button within the takedown lever either left or right so it doesn't matter if you're left or right handed... if the 220 frame fits your hand, you will have enough strength to flip the switch and if not, you can definitely use your other hand and your thumb to turn it on from the opposite side... in other words, its not hard... and the recipient will get used to it within a few minutes.

As far as getting this item as a gift, it's pretty cool alright.. my sig is 22yrs old and doesn't have any rails... it doesn't change the look but it's totally functional and is about the only thing i would consider adding to the gun... I like the fact that i can turn it on in a split second where i normally keep my finger off the trigger for safety purposes when checking a dark area/sounds in the backyard or around the cars at night, things like that... it doesn't have the beam from A to B like you might think... if its foggy. I'm sure that you would be able to see the beam but otherwise it just shows up as a dot on whatever you're point at. the dot blinks/strobes so that's normal. probably saves the battery some... haven't had it long enough to change the battery... but whoever designed this thing made sure that it was user friendly...

As far as functional... i think that it adds a psychological deterrent and slightly reduces the chances of being forced to use the weapon it's mounted in as self defense... it can be used to blind or distract an assailant... and gives the option of placing a shot in self defense, in an area that would preserve life!

Giving this item as a gift, gives you the opportunity and topic to reaffirm that all life is precious and that one should never take someones life. that the old saying... shoot em in the leg... is actually now possible now that your gift recipient has this laser... I just read a story about a guy accidentally shooting his son in law to death for trying to complete a birthday surprise... I'd bet he wished he shot em in the leg instead of just jumping straight to a kill shot... remind them that that accidents happen when people act foolishly... never to play with or point guns at people.. saw another news story about a cop discharging a gun through the floor "while cleaning it".. BS.. He was playing quick draw with a loaded/chambered gun and that's a really bad idea... Also, pointing lasers and guns at people is a serious matter and should never be a joke or laughing matter, guns are not a grown up toy... they should only use a weapon in an appropriate place such as a designated range or as truly last resort and only in self defense... to NEVER point this laser at planes or helicopters... they can blind the pilots and it is a felony. Last but not least... bullets can ricochet and can cause fires... shooting at something like rocks or metal is a bad idea so be mindful of what they are shooting at and make sure that they can SEE AND IDENTIFY their target... don't just shoot at bushes because they moved... If any doubt, don't shoot... Accidents happen when people don't think and this laser is a reminder of all safety rules and to exercise common sense when handling guns. they shouldn't take offense to any of that and will know you care...

  • I don't have 2 guide pins for a green one too
