Yoda's Review of LaserMax Guide Rod Green Laser Sights for Sig Sauer P226

I've put about 600 rounds trough my Sig Sauer P226 since I purchased the Lasermax LMS-226G from Optics Planet. My beef is not with Optics Planet but with the manufacturer. In my opinion, how dare they market a life aiding tool that is built around DUMB engineering and components. This "tool" is in no way even close to meeting military specifications.

The plastic battery cap is thin and cheesy. It wears extremely fast as it rides on the barrel of the gun and is shoved every time the weapon is fired. In addition, it houses a minute spring and contact pin that fall out easily while changing the batteries. They can go flying across the room only to never be found again. NEVER try to change your batteries inn the field!

The new take down lever supplied by Lasermax is another poorly designed and/or implemented concept.
This take down lever is the switch to turn the Lasermax on or off. It relies on a tiny dot of epoxy to act as an insulator to open the circuit and turn the laser off. In my opinion, a dumb and poorly implemented switch.

As for the comments made by others that there is no way to ZERO the laser to the gun, there is, just not one the end user can use. It requires special tools. the adjustments controls are iinfinitesimally small. to add to that, what are you going to use as a comparison since the screws are only available when the LMS-226 is out of the firearm?

My main gripe is the warranty service or truly the lack there of.
After putting about 600 rounds through my P226 with the lasermax I was able to turn it off but cut could not turn it back on. Remember that tiny dot of epoxy I mentioned earlier. Well, it just fell out. Come on guys, who would put their life on the line and depend on a dot of epoxy to stand up to repeated firing of a gun.

OK, so I called the home of Lasermax (585) 657-6161. I spoke with a woman who took all of my information and I explained to her the problems I was having. In addition to the takedown lever switch being nonfunctional, the battery cap was severely deteriorated due to normal use. I asked for the lever and cap to be replace, which I thought was a reasonable request.

Four weeks later my unit arrived back. Dang, I could build a gun and more in that amount of time. A new dot of the same poor epoxy was in the switch, they had just glued mine back together. The battery cap was not replaced and the batteries were now dead inside the Lasermax. Question, if the lasermax manual says to never ship the unit with the batteries in place, why the heck do they?

The ??? technician ??? who supposedly worked my unit sent back what they call “Lasermax Consumer Warrantee / Repair Documentation”

His statement was “ Repair missing non-conductive material in switch pin.
That’s all !
He did not check off that the alignment was checked to see if it was in spec’s
He did not check to see the auto wake function was working
He did not check the laser beam focus to meet factory specs
He did not check to see that the actuators would function properly

They ignored almost every request which I had presented to them, both on then phone
and the letter I included with the returned unit.

I’ve kept all the documentation and will provide it upon request.

To me, this is a fly by night operation which does not warrant any accolades.
I would NOT buy any product from them in the future.
Pros:
  • Easy to install
  • Does put a dot VERY close to where the bullet will strike
Cons:
  • Not dependable
  • Poor design and workmanship
  • Poor Warranty Service ! ! !
