UTG Scope on RWS 48 Pellet Rifle

by lake, from UT, United States Written on January 7, 2017
RWS 48 is a powerful side cocking pellet rifle with substantial two-way recoil. It trashed the BSA scope that was on it. I bought the UTG scope based on various reviews and got a decent price from Optics Planet. I used my existing mounts for the new scope and had my rifle zeroed in 5 shots. The optics are very clear and the scope to this point (400 shots) is holding zero. I'm pleased with the purchase and the service from Optics Planet.

I purchased this Leapers scope to use on my Benjamin Trail XL Air Rifle. I was cautious to buy an optic that was
"rated" for Air Rifle use, which Leapers claims this optic is. I took the first optic out of the box and mounted
it on my XL and within 100 shots the "wire" reticule snapped on the left hand side. I emailed Leapers (Second
Mistake) and they said "Sure just pay to ship it back to us and we will evaluate". I said that this was completely
unacceptable and they did generate a pre-paid shipping label for me.

I shipped the optic back and they had it for two weeks and I heard nothing. I emailed my contact back and he said
"Oh yes, we are sending out a new optic today". I get this brand new replacement optic from Leapers and mount it
back on the Trail XL and proceed to go out and put the rifle in my lead sled to sight it in. After THREE HOURS I
could NOT get the optic to sight in. I would get one or two rounds that would group (at 20 yards) and then get
three to four that are 6-12" apart. Two of my other firearms enthusiast friends were scratching their heads as
well. The only thing we could come up with is that the erector tube inside the scope is "jumping" around after
each shot. Well then it became apparent that something inside was wrong as metal flakes began to appear on the
INSIDE of the Objective lens.

So here I am, way past OpticsPlanet's 30 day Return, two dead scopes later... Now what do I do?

What a waste of money... I KNOW better than t...
