Is this for toys or guns? - Leapers UTG 3-12x44mm Compact Rifle Scope

After reading great reviews I decided to buy this UTG 3-12x44 scope excited to mount it to my new AR. Scope arrive in great condition, packaged well and after installing the battery the light turned on and I cycled through the numerous colors which was pretty cool. :) I mounted the scope with the rings provided and headed to the range. First shot was low and to the right, but immediately the light went out. I removed the battery cover, put it back on and the light worked again. Adjusted the scope, took a second shot and the light went out again. This continued for another 5 shots before giving up and used the black reticle to finish sighting in the scope. Once I got on center, I noticed within another 10 rounds that I was wandering and after repeated adjustment I was getting further and further away from center until I was forced to bring my target to within 12 yards just to hit paper. I called it a day and contacted optics planet to which they replied I have to contact the manufacturer and would not help. Guess I'll take my business elsewhere and not shop here again if they won't stand behind the products they sell.
