Maverick's Review of Leapers UTG Heavy Duty Recon 360 Bipods

This bipod has some neat features but in my opinion is missing some more important functions I find on my more expensive model. The ball swivel construction is neat and allows can't correction AND tracking. It will go straight on to a picatinny rail. The price point is easy to overcome. The overall construction seems quite sturdy with one exception, if you need to mount this on a sling stud the screw that holds the adapter assembly together is very small. I can see that breaking. The legs lock in different positions throughout their deployment arc, I don't find that at all useful. What I am really missing is 2 functions. 1- The legs are not spring loaded. On my other bipod you just reach forward, grab a leg, give a push and they spring into position. These lock in the folded position meaning you have to manually release the lock and then pivot them into whatever lock through the arc you want. The same goes for folding them back up. 2 - The leg extensions are not spring loaded. You must deploy them manually as well. This all means the deployment of this bipod is markedly more clumsy and time consuming than a spring loaded model. I'll be running this on my .22 and getting something nicer for my .300.
Pros:
  • Price point. Allows for cant correction. Alllows for tracking correction.
Cons:
  • Lacks any spring loade features. Slow and clumsy to deploy.
Best Used for:
  • Recreational as opposed to tactical.
