ideola's Review of Leapers UTG Heavy Duty Recon 360 Bipods
I first bought the smallest version of this bipod, and liked it so much, I bought one each of the two larger sizes, so I now own one of each of these bipods in each of the sizes offered by UTG. I move them around between my FN15, DSA Arms SA58 FAL, Radical Firearms AR7.62, Excel Arms AR57, Bushmaster AR57, and Ruger PCC9.
I really like the simplicity but feature-packed design. The detent release and lock knob for the leg extensions work really nice and have a very positive tactile engagement. I really like the swivel and tilt features in the attachment point. I have a minor complaint, though, regarding the leg deployment buttons, which allow you to rotate the legs to 5 different positions across 180 degrees. The functionality is great, the buttons are a bit difficult to operate quickly, especially when wearing gloves. I opted for this design, though, because I didn't want the complication and snag points of competing products that use external springs.
The two larger models are my favorite, the small one is REALLY short...I can really only use it on the Bushmaster AR57 (due to its top-mounted PS90 magazine) and the PCC9 (but only when using the 10 round mags). The other guns have mags that are really too long to use with the short bipod. The biggest version has no trouble dealing with the punishment dished out by the FAL. All in all, these are really nice bipods, especially for the price.
