BloodLettingGroove's Review of UTG Pro AR15 Super Slim M-LOK 15in Drop-In Handguard

The edition of Sport II I ended up with has a 1.5" gas block in lieu of an A2 front sight post. Underneath no bayonet lug, nor sling swivel. This drop-in hand guard setup is solid and accommodates for any and all of the above. I lovingly refer to this as the "poor man's floating rail". Anyone familiar with the Sport II knows the gas block gets hot... real hot! This product goes a long way towards "heat-sinking" what the gas block gives off. I waited long (too long) for the VISM version of this product, which I ordered in September and still didn't receive by late December. This one I had in less than a week. I held off on buying my Magpul M-Lok bipod due to the original delay, which I cancelled once I saw this competitor brand was in stock. This one arrived as soon as reasonably possible, and it went on my rig immediately and the bipod went on ASAP subsequently. Mounting was a breeze and all the tools and hardware are included. I've since been to the range with the bipod in use rather than my elbows. Verdict? I prefer it's not my elbows. In summation I should report there are plenty of off-brand AR's that come equipped with a floating rail... but some of us opted for something different for whatever reason. I got a S&W bundle deal because I knew of the modularity of the AR platform and things like this were out there. Things just like this. All things being fair, it's never gonna look like a Daniel Defense, nor will it ever be one. This is putting a performance part on a base Mustang or Camaro. I didn't start with a Ferrari. This makes a decent brand budget AR look good and accommodate features that it couldn't before. I'm not gonna lie. It's better than putting a spoiler on a Honda. This gets you better than just the sights and sounds. It brings expanded functionality. I don't know if I'll be adding a Tac-light, but now I can and I couldn't before.
Pros:
  • Looks good, expands options
Cons:
  • It's an obvious budget add-on
Best Used for:
  • Carbine length models
