One scope fits all? - Hi-Lux Optics CMR Series 1-4x24 Rifle Scope

Although not as quick to use as a small single purpose red-dot sight, nor as magnified as some might like, the Hi-Lux 1-4x24 fills the intermediary role as a terrific single option scope. That's one where you can just leave it on your close range rifle to fill multiple roles. Close range? I'd think 200m and under would be perfect. How about on your M4 or caliber variants? Perfect. I've got this one mounted on an AR 300 AAC Blackout. It's my deer and hog gun, and easily fills the role in low light situations for both hunting and self defense.

Whatever your planned use, let's get to the scope. First, the awesome glass! It's extremely clear, and the reticle is beyond what you'd expect in an inexpensive scope. It's a terrific daylight scope as is, and the illumination allows you to spot your target in low-light or dark conditions. You've seen it before, where your game is shadowed by a dark background...and your reticle disappears! But, turn on the illumination, and you have a very crisp and clear part circle/dot reticle with no daylight needed.

As a defensive close quarters scope for the home or otherwise, just roll back the magnification to 1x, cut on the illumination if needed, and you now mimic a standard red dot sight.

The zoom function is very smooth and not hard to turn. The turrets are a little finicky in that the lower ring(s) can be difficult to rotate into zero position once you've adjusted your windage and elevation. It's nice that the elevation control stops back at zero without needing to look at the ring, but the disadvantage of this 'feature' is that your elevation control only goes 'up' from there. It's recommended to zoom to 4x and set your distance to 100 yards, then zero lock it at that range. I suppose you could zero it a shorter distances to see how the drop marks work for you, or at least have the option to use the turret with reference numbers for longer distances.

I see all kinds of excuses to go to the range!
