GREAT OPTIC
I have used and owned many scopes over the past 30 years. This is my second CMR. The first (Red)I purchased used and abused as a curiosity. Over the past two years, that CMR has never let me down. I recently decided to buy another, only this time a new one with Green illumination. You know opini...

no good at all in full sunlight
Red dot is useless in sunlight. You can not see it at all. Eye relief is poor and too short. Either buy much less expensive or a more expensive sight as this in not worth more the 1/3 of the price. Eye relief is bad six of us were trying to shoot it and all of us (two marines and three cops and ...

One of the best scopes in the 1-4x24 class.
I found this scope while searching for "the right scope" for my AR. I liked the SWFA scopes but at the time I was looking to buy were not in stock. I started looking and found this Leatherwood and the more I researched the scope the better I liked it. The company has a long history of tactical and military quality scopes and features not found on other scopes. The CMR ( close-medium range) has a unique turret locking with their "Zero Locking System" and all the testing review I found showed it return to zero never failed. The glass is great and as clear as scopes costing $1000 of dollars, and the quality fully multi-coated lenses are utilized to provide a clear and sharp image. Use in low light conditions hasn’t been overlooked and light transmission is the best in its class. "Tri-Center” spring tension for positive windage and elevation adjustment, and a Fast Focus large diameter ocular lens. Hi-Lux’s CMR scope offers exceptional performance at a shockingly affordable price. About Hi-Lux Optics: Hi-Lux Optics’ roots reach back to the ART series of sniper scopes adopted by none other then the United States Army and successfully fielded during the Vietnam War. The top scoring sniper of this conflict utilized an ART scope designed by one of Leatherwood's founders, Jim Leatherwood. Glass etched reticle allows for more intricate reticle design. This reticle is designed specifically for standard .223 & .308 service ammo at 600 meters. It is made in red or green illuminated circle ...

Unlike Benelli, this is worth more than its price.
If you're like me you are probably trying to compare this to the Burris MTAC, Leupold AR, Vortex Viper, and any other number of the other 1-4x scopes. I've had the opportunity to look through those at local stores. I myself couldn't tell any difference between clarity of glass between any of them, they're all clear. Go see a youtube review on each one, they all have rave reviews with one or two minor things that the reviewer personally doesn't like. One of my favorite youtube personalities S00tch gave a good unbiased review of this that sold me on this one. The summary of that is that this scope is just as good as any of the others at nearly a hundred bucks less than the other more notable name brands. Also, I'm a real big fan of the donut/horseshoe reticle. If you look around, most of the higher end don't even have that as a reticle option. Why pay more for something you don't really want? I agree this scope is durable. I run this with a Burris PEPR mount on a SCAR 16 for action shooting. I'm pretty aggressive with dumping it into barrels, scope has been holding zero for several excursions.
I do agree with many of the reviews about this scope. Yes, illuminated reticle at max setting washes out easily in bright day light. I really don't use the illuminated reticle since all my shooting is in the day.

A lot of bang for the bucks
I really like this scope. The optical clarity goes WAY beyond it's price tag. It is very versatile, in that it works great as both a scope, AND as a red dot sight. It is designed for close to medium combat ranges and it truly excels at that. I am already thinking about buying another one. It's that good.
Pros:
- Clear optics
- Versatility
- Reasonably priced
Cons:
- none... yet

One scope fits all?
Although not as quick to use as a small single purpose red-dot sight, nor as magnified as some might like, the Hi-Lux 1-4x24 fills the intermediary role as a terrific single option scope. That's one where you can just leave it on your close range rifle to fill multiple roles. Close range? I'd think 200m and under would be perfect. How about on your M4 or caliber variants? Perfect. I've got this one mounted on an AR 300 AAC Blackout. It's my deer and hog gun, and easily fills the role in low light situations for both hunting and self defense.
Whatever your planned use, let's get to the scope. First, the awesome glass! It's extremely clear, and the reticle is beyond what you'd expect in an inexpensive scope. It's a terrific daylight scope as is, and the illumination allows you to spot your target in low-light or dark conditions. You've seen it before, where your game is shadowed by a dark background...and your reticle disappears! But, turn on the illumination, and you have a very crisp and clear part circle/dot reticle with no daylight needed.
As a defensive close quarters scope for the home or otherwise, just roll back the magnification to 1x, cut on the illumination if needed, and you now mimic a standard red dot sight.
The zoom function is very smooth and not hard to turn. The turrets are a little finicky in that the lower ring(s) can be difficult to rotate into zero position once you've adjusted your windage and elevation. It's nice that the elevation control stops back ...

UPDATE Leatherwood CMR
Just a quick update since I have had the scope for a few months now. I have the scope mounted on a Ruger SSR in 6.8mm REM SPC. The scope sighted in just fine with minimal rounds to get it on target after I pre-bore sighted it. It has held its zero through many rounds fired and quite a few hog hunting trips on my families land. I still am very enamored of the reticle. I cannot say enough good things about this well thought out sighting system. The tube is solid and is resistant to the bumps and scrapes that come with hunting here in the piney woods and close quarters of the forest land here. I have still not noticed any particulates in the scope and the reticle is highly visible in the day time without illumination and very visible during the late evening with the many illumination settings. I could not be happier with this scope.

do no bother
The illuminated dot is worthless. Once you step into sunlight, illumination washes out completely. This makes the scope worthless in my book. I called the company to discuss the illumination, they never did return my call. Optics Planet stood behind their end and gave me a full refund...Optics gets 5 stars. The scope gets 1.

Leatherwood/Hi-Lux CMR Exceptional Scope
This was my first variable powered scope with a 30mm tube. The tube was larger than I expected and this is not a complaint. This scope is well put together and solid as a tank. The outer finish on the scope is an even matte black and well done. No marring or scratches once I removed it from the box. The windage and elevation dials have a slight bit of play to them but the adjustment 'clicks' are solid and audible. The illumination dial is solid and has a good bit of resistance to turning but I have no complaint there as it will not be adjusting all on its own. I purchased the accessory variable power adjustment lever and it went on very easily and with just a small bit of blue lock tight it is there to stay. It does help transition the scopes power from 1x to 4x smoothly. I would highly recommend purchasing this little part which is less than 20 dollars here on Optics Planet. The glass on this scope is immaculate!! Very clear and the 30mm tube collects light excellently. I have none of the particulates some have stated that their scopes have been plagued with. I rather like the etched glass and the ability to use the scope should battery power fail. The black, etched reticle shows up just fine in the day light. I also do not expect to see a lighted reticle in full sun light. Save your battery in sun light and illuminate in low light/indoor situations. Speaking of the illumination it shows up a brilliant green in low light and not until the very highest setting do I...

Git-U-Sum!
I research a little too much sometimes when shopping for products that are new to me. This was my first purchase of a scope higher in quality than a Tasco. I looked at, and through the $200-$1200 range of scopes from Bushnell to Trijicon. I was ready to spend the BIG BUCKS on a scope until I found the Hi Lux. Personally I see no difference in the optic quality between the Leatherwood and the Leupold. The reticle on this thing is the nicest that I found, with easy target acquisition with the horseshoe design. Do not expect to see the illumination in bright daylight. Illumination is for low light situations, and the black BUSTS out when the sun is shining. Easy to zoom, focus, and the positive clicks on the turrets are top notch. Bottom line is you DO NOT have to bust your wallet in order to bust up some targets. Got this for 3Gun matches, and believe me there is no shame in having this mounted on your Baby!
Best Used for:
- 3 gun competion

The perfect scope for an AR without busting the budget!
I was hesitant about getting this scope after looking at its competition, Leupold VXR. But it held up to much more than my expectations. Lightweight and easy to adjust. The zero lock is awesome. Would have liked a red arc better than the green, or better yet a color selectable setting for low light (green) and high light (red).
Pros:
- Lightweight, easy to use and spot on with minimal adjustments out of box
Cons:
- green arc not as easy to see in high lit situations
Would recommend: Yes
