Robert Worthington's Review of Hi-Lux Optics Wm. Malcolm 6x17mm Rifle Scopes, 3/4in Tube
A beautiful scope, it suits my half-stock muzzle loader very well, and makes her a tack driver, too. The optics are clear and bright. The mount could be better, as only two screws hold the rear mount to the block held by a dovetail and three screws. I'm not sure I understand the logic behind that, but it works just fine on my .36 cal. peashooter, which is pretty easy on the recoil. It holds well, and the first 50 yard group I shot was four shots in 1-3/4", which I expect to improve as The barrel seasons and I work on the load a bit.
Now, I want to get more mounts, so I can use the scope on my .50 cal. percussion longrifle, .577 Snider-Enfield, and my Martini-Greener .45-70.
I added the fine elevation adjustment, which I think is a good way to go.
Installation wasn't difficult; had to cut a rear dovetail and drill and tap for the rear mount screws, but I'm a gunsmith, so not a big deal for me.
Ideal for old-time guns that wouldn't look right with a modern style scope.
P.S. I have the shorter version on my .44-40 mini-Sharps, way fun!
