Legacy Reviewer's Review of Hi-Lux Optics Wm. Malcolm 6x17mm Rifle Scopes, 3/4in Tube

I wish to add a part two review of the Malcolm Scope that is now mounted on my Uberti Sharps 45/70. I got my scope mounted by a well known local gunsmith here where I live who is familiar with the mounting process of Malcolms. After four long months due to his backlog I received my rifle back and I took it to the range this past weekend. Very, very nice. I was shooting 1/4 MOA's at 300 yards with this scope. The rifle and scope is capable of a 1,000 yard shot easily. However, after about 15 shots I had to quit shooting as the scope moved forward due to heavy recoil. It is a MUST that when you order this scope, you must order also the Tube Locking Collar to prevent the scope from sliding forward. I learned the hard way and it is a shame that Leatherwood Optics DOES NOT include the TLC in with the scope. You do receive all other hardware: base, dovetail fitting and hardware. For the money you pay I feel you should receive the TLC. Also on a 32" inch barrel DO NOT get the 7" extension. It will make the scope to long and you will get scope eye. Order the 3" extension and you will be fine. The eye relief is a generous four inches. The other complaint I have is the adjustments for windage in the field. You must raise the elevation to it's highest setting to get to the two set windage screws for adjustment. Also after a few shots you should check your tightness of all screws as the recoil of your rifle will loosen everything. But, this is a period scope and not the modern scopes of today so it is expected to spend a little time between shots to check all of this. Optics Planet was prompt in sending the Tube Locking Collar and I thank you once again for such a great price for a beautiful reproduction of the Malcolm Scope. I reccomend this scope highly to anyone who owns a period rifle. Get it, you won't be sorry. I have no words to tell you of the beauty of this scope on my rifle. I hope this helps all in making the purchase of the Malcolm. Thanks again Optics Planet. You have a customer for life.
Pros: fine scope for the money
Cons: can be a pain to adjust in the field
