Simple, accurate and inexpwnsive
I bought the Lee Deluxe Quick Trim trimmer. As part of that system each caliber requires a specific die. I tried the trimmer yesterday and it was quick, easy and hard to mess up. Insert the die in your press, put the trimmer in the top, run a piece of brass up in the die and spin the trimmer. No piece of brass was more than .001 inches off the trim-to recommendation of 2.005 inches. The trimmer has a .006 inch adjustability but I did not need it. The outside chamfer did not work, which is a negative. And technique, as in most things matters -- consistent hand pressure is important. But overall the quality of the dies and trimmer system are great. Except for when a specialty cartridge caliber is needed (though Lee will make a custom QT die for $25 plus shipping), I will never use my old-style "Accutrimmer" again. Lee makes an attachment with an ability for the cutter head to be chucked into a drill for large volume reloaders, or arthritically challenged folks, but I haven't tried that. Another down is the need to purchase a die for each caliber -- but it also means no fiddling with adjustments that can loosen. I wish I found this years ago.
Pros:
- Ease of use
- accuracy
- Excellent for new reloaders
Cons:
- Price (but honestly, pretty cheap price considering the quality).
- Outside chamfer did not work, but that is the cutting head, not this die
Best Used for:
- New or lower volume reloaders
Would recommend: Yes
