Most Helpful Positive Review Leica Monovid Monocular
I had been eyeing this monocular for awhile now and recently decided to buy it despite its high cost. I was looking for a high quality optic that was small and light and that could fit in my shirt pocket with a lightweight neck strap around my neck. I have had it for a few weeks now and have had some time to use it in different scenarios such as sight seeing, traveling, hiking and hunting. Let me first say that I am fortunate to own a few high end binoculars including a Leica 10x50 Ultravid and a Zeiss Victory 8x20 compact. It is against these binos that I compaired the monocular. The mon...

ps...adjunct to my previous monovid comment

by jordan, from CA, United States Written on November 7, 2022
PS... just an after thought to my previous post..but, the Monovid 8x20 works really well with the Orion 2x54 bino with its amazing 36 degree FOV with 2x magnification..then when something interesting comes into view use the 8x20 monovid for closer inspection... such a killer light weight and versatile combo.. the Orion 2x54 offers such an amazingly sharp large field of view from about 25-40 feet to infinity with their individual ocular focusing. The individual focusing of the Orions makes for the most amazing image, especially if one eye is a lot different than the other, like mine are ( which center wheel focusing binos ( evan swaros) have been somewhat inept to provide. The Orions are marketed towards astronomers but do extremely well for nature/bird watching as well. Bonus...The Alpine Innovations Bino Bandit work extremely well with the 2x54s..even when wearing (low profile) eye glasses.. jmho..

amazing piece of glass

by jordan, from CA, United States Written on November 6, 2022
I love this thing..small, easy to carry in palm of my hand. Can move it to my eye in a fraction of a second and track a kingfisher diving for its prey..so easy to fine tune the focus on the fly.
I have a swaro nl 8x42..and having to pick between the 2..it would be tough... but probably would pick the monovid due to its small size, portability and excellent image quality...jmho...

I was skeptical, now I'm pleased with the product, and the service.

I am retired Federal wildlife biologist, and have owned and used many high quality optics scopes and binoculars, including Zeiss, Swaroviski, and now Leica in a monocular which matches or exceeds the other brands. Also these companies do not make a comparable, waterproof, fogproof monocular. I have owned numerous, cheap optics, and am I feel that you have to pay for the best, and these are certainly expensive, and if you are particular about optics, there is no cheap route, other than a lucky garage sale or thrift store purchase. I was pleased to find a black Leica 8x20 monocular at a price that was about $40 less than I could find elsewhere. I was impressed by the Optics Planet website. After I ordered my monocular, with the free 2 day shipping, I was looking forward to soon receiving my product. I decided to check reviews of the company, and after seeing several negative reviews, I tried to cancel my order within an hour, but was not allowed because the order was already being filled. I was nervous, because this is one of the most expensive monoculars available, and good optics are expensive, and I was afraid, I had made a mistake, and was in for a big hassle. I ordered it on a Friday, and was thrilled to see over the weekend that my product had been shipped! The package arrived on Wednesday, the third business day after I ordered. I had received other emails and tracking information. After examining the monocular, I found it is exactly as advertised, it arrived in...

Great optics

by lizard, from OH, United States Written on August 26, 2019
I am a competitive archer, and use this for field shoots. I can see clearly.
Optics are very bright too! Metal housing is nice and sturdy. focus ring is decent and doesn't get knocked out of focus too badly.
Only drawback is the price, HOWEVER, when you need good small optic THIS is the one I choose!

I have a Leica, Televid also, that went to the Athens Olympics. Got hooked on Leica with that and wanted a great portable small handheld scope. Got the little red one!❤️
Pros:
  • great optics
Cons:
  • Pricey
Best Used for:
  • distance viewing with smaller optic
