Most Helpful Positive Review Great Purchase Very Tight Competition
Well it was either these of the Vortex Razor HD 8x42. I was totally locked up in the pre-purchase decision making process. Read everything I could. Bugged the heck out of both manufacturers not to mention the wonderful customer service of OpticsPlanet. Then one day a special came through so I ordered both. In the end almost kept both too. Both are spectacular units. A friend and I spent several hours looking up down and across golf fairways in all light conditions at distance as far as we could see anything (probably out to 2,000 yards) with and without rain with and without sun. I didn’t te...

Fantastic Glass.

by Tony A, from IL, United States Written on May 8, 2023
This Leupold Santiam 8x42 is one of the clearest glass I have bought in a binocular.
Totally worth the money I spent buying it.
The depth of field is very nice as well, I live by O'Hare Airport and even in the dying light of the day, real late afternoon, I can make out even the small lettering of the aircrafts at a distance, none of my other binos could do that.
Totally recommend these binos if you want quality glass without paying the premium prices of the Alphas.
Pros:
  • reasonable price.
  • Clarity.
  • Lite weight.
  • Terrific Crafstmanship.
Cons:
  • None that I could find.
Best Used for:
  • Bird watching, hunting, hiking, plane spotting. Etc etc.

Leupold BX5 Santiago HD 8x42 Binoculars

by Bass Boy, from PA, United States Written on July 25, 2020
Let me start out by saying that these are great binoculars. I live near a Cabels’s store & was able to compare them side by side with the Vortex Razor HD, the Nikon HG & even the Swarovski SLC. I felt they easily bested the Vortex Razor. They also beat out the Nikons. At first I thought the Swarovski was the best of the group but after looking at a mounted deer a good distance away inside the store with limited lighting I was amazed at how clear the animal’s coat appeared thru the Leupolds. It was not difficult to make a decision as to which were the best to my eyes. Optics Planet price beats everyone & then there is the Leupold lifetime guarantee. The Leupolds are half the price of the Swaros & $250 less than the other 2 competitors. You won’t be disappointed with the Leupold BX 5 binoculars. They are excellent performers at dusk & on overcast days as well. I can’t find anything negative to say except that the carry case has a snug fit & can pull the lens caps off when removing the binoculars. I stretched the case a bit & now they’re pretty good. Overall I give these a 5 star rating & would highly recommend them.

Hard to beat these.

by Rick, from NV, United States Written on July 10, 2020
I like these binos. I got them because I find the 8 power easier to hold steady than the Swarovski 10 power glasses I've been using. My only complaint is that the eyepiece covers don't work well if attached to the strap. Leupold support suggests using a short piece of cord to tie the eye covers to the strap; information that should be included in the owner's manual.
Pros:
  • Great binoculars for extended use
Cons:
  • That unattached eye piece cover.
Best Used for:
  • any use requiring extended viewing.
