Phinnie's Review of Leupold D-EVO 6x20mm Tactical Rifle Scope

This thing is awesome. I like oddball optics, some work, others not so much, this thing works!!! It's pretty cool to not have to switch from 1x to 6x manually like a normal scope. With this, you just move your eye, not your head and dont break contact with the rifle. I'm suprised the military doesnt use these, as you could definitely see the way it speeds up your shooting from low mag to higher, while keeping your peripherals and awareness intact. The only thing I would say, is you NEED to have good consistent cheek weld (which you should have anyways), and it has to be pretty far back-not much eye relief. But it's worth it once you understand these quirks and is fast and clear once used to it. Another bonus for it is that it can be "slaved" to any other sight on any rifle, it doesnt NEED to be behind a red dot, if you have irons, this will still work. If irons are zeroed, then you can zero this to those and so on, if it's set stable at one point/target. It would also work for say if you had a 20x scope and had room to put this behind it, youd have a 20x and 6x, or a thermal and this behind it, its versatile. Or stand alone. I thought for some reason it HAD to be with a red dot, it does not. Can be used alone, as long as it has room and can look along the side of the other optic, if its tall enough.
Pros:
  • Rugged build
  • Fast magnification
  • More useful than a red dot magnifier
  • Light weight for what it is
  • Good reticle, useful but not overly complicated
  • Can be slaved to other sights, so useful on many platforms if they already have a sight with a zero
Cons:
  • Pricey, worth it, but pricey
  • Low eye relief, think Trijicon touchy
Best Used for:
  • Tactical
  • Competition Shooting
  • Hunting, especially thick brush and clearings
  • If speed is a concern, far to short distances
  • Multiple platforms, especially AR types
