bp's Review of Leupold VX-3i 4.5-14x40mm Side Focus Rifle Scope

I have two of Leupold's older VX3's 30mm 4.5-14x40mm CDS scopes that came with a duplex reticle. I changed the reticle in both of them to help me account for windage more accurately. Two different reticles. One in Mils and the other uses MOA. Both reticles cost me an additional $160 plus shipping costs to Leupold. They both work good but are a little busy and obstruct your view somewhat. I have been requesting a simple reticle from Leupold with windage marks in MOA for about eight years. They finally came out with their windplex last year as a standard option on their CDS scopes. I pulled the trigger on a new rifle and needed a new scope.

The new VX3i CDS scope with the windplex reticle is exactly what I've been asking for. The reticle is simple that doesn't obstruct your view and is great for your windage hold over. The CDS turret gets you there for elevation. Get your custom CDS turret for your load and you are in business out to 800 or 900 yards depending on your load and zero. I like the 30 mm tube and the side focus for parallax. The 40 mm objective mounts low to the gun to get a get a good check weld with standard sporter stocks. This scope is clear and lets in plenty of light with the combo of 30 mm tube, side focus parallax, and 40 mm objective and is only 15.6 oz. The windplex is exactly what I've been requesting and it is a standard option. This is a great scope for long range hunting that does not break the bank or add a lot of weight to the top of your rifle.
