D.L. Johnson's Review of Leupold Mark 4 1.5-5x20mm MR/T M2 Illuminated Rifle Scope
I purchased this scope coming off a " High " that I reached purchasing the Leupold VX-R Patrol w/the SPR fire-dot for my sons Sig Sauer 556 classic. That scope was the perfect set up for the type of shooting we do, combination of CQB and mid range precision. Now, my son and I both run the Sig 556 classics and when we seen how good that scope worked on his rifle, I wanted the same type of system on my rifle. Now when it came time to purchase a scope for my rifle I had a little more money to spend so I settled on the Leupold Mark 4 1-5 MR/T M2. I was thinking I was getting a little more magnification and a reticule that was definitely a step up from the SPR. The problem is the reticule is not bright enough during the day. Early morning & dusk it works great and can be used as a CQB red dot on the lowest magnification, but you are at a loss during the day light. Now on to the good parts. If you are looking for a dedicated DMR or even a mid range sniper rifle scope....this is it. As I stated before my son and I run Sig 556 classics, great battle rifles, tuff as nails, but they are just not as accurate as a gas impingement, at least not with 55/62gr.and that is what we shoot for practice most of the time. This scope and his VX-R Patrol has brought us down to the 1 1/2 in. group range @ 100yrds. We were at 3in at 100 before the leupolds, unless we ran our 75gr bth which gave us our 1in.Now our next test will be with the 75gr. w/ the Leupolds. So what am I saying here? if you want a dedicated DMR/mid range sniper scope...go for it, if you want the CQB option, go for the VXR-Patrol w/fire dot. I will be writing another review after some more time behind it, and also after we have taken it out canoeing and hiking. That will be the test for durability, because when we go out....we have fun!
