I was looking for a variable-zoom optic for my semi-auto .308 rifle and the Mark 4 2.5-8x36mm MR/T M2 Illuminated TMR fit the bill perfectly: decent magnification, illuminated reticle, mil dot-type reticle, adjustable turrets, lightweight, and about as made in USA as you can get these days.
The 2.5x is decent for close up shots although a little slower with target acquisition than a lesser-powered optic like a 1x or 1.5x would be. The TMR reticle allows for range calculation when set at 8x and functions as regular crosshairs when used at lower magnifications. The TMR center aperture is open so that you wont completely cover small targets and the vertical hash marks provide hold over reference for quick shots. The illuminated reticle is easy to use and looks crisp although it took some force to get the wafer battery installed completely. The 36mm objective lets in plenty of light but is still a small-enough diameter that I was able to use low-height rings and still clear the full-length picatinny rail on my rifle. Turret adjustments are precise and barely audible. The elevation turret came with engraved bullet drop markings for 7.62mm, 168 gr. loads. The scope also came with Butler Creek flip-up covers. Finally, eye relief is very good on this scope allowing me to optimize the distance to the eye piece during installation. No regrets and it's nice to know Leupold will always stand behind their product.
Pros: Reticle features, light weight, Leupold quality/warranty
Cons: Pricy compared to some other brands.
