I purchased this Leupold VXI 2x7 riflescope for an old .22LR Marlin 99M1 carbine which I received at Christmas 44 years ago. I am a fan of Leupold riflecopes and always wanted to put one on my old Marlin but was hesitant because of its age and the expense. I already owned a Leupold VXII 3x9AO rimfire scope for my .22LR CZ 452, and a VXIII 2.5x8 on my 30.06 pre 64 Winchester Model 70, and have owned others with other rifles in the past.
I mounted the little VXI 2x7 with medium height 3/8" steel Leupold Ringmount rings and it is a perfect match. I ordered the Leupold Alumina covers. One thing to note with the Leupold rimfire scopes is that they have a 28mm eyepiece and require the smaller "Ultralight" Alumina cover.
Great classic size rimfire scope. I sighted it in between 25 and 30 yards, and while benching the old Marlin a horsefly made the fatal mistake of spending too much time walking across the target. Not bad for a couple of old timers.
Pros: Brightness, size, quality.
Cons: Variable control is a little stiff to operate.
