Wicky's Review of Leupold VX-6HD 3-18x50mm Rifle Scope, 30mm Tube, Second Focal Plane

I have 2 vx-6 scopes which are awesome and the only reason I got this on is that I’ve wanted an illuminated reticle since they came out. The firedot on my 1-6 is fantastic but I wanted this or illumination for my longer distance rifle.. finally caught one on sale and wow! As good as my VX6’s are I couldn’t imagine how it could get better but as expected the eye box is typical Leupold the best in the business and clarity is crystal clear... I have to mess with it more to really see some of the differences because my other ones are dam good as well. Illumination is all that it’s cracked up to be and will come in handy. The brightness range is great. Waaay better than of my Nightforce F1 SHV which in normal sunlight can’t see any illumination at the brightest setting. Granted it’s generally not needed when it’s daylight but there are those instances when you are looking in a shadowy area ar dark targets and it is tough to see at the center of reticle.. the Nightforce illumination doesn’t come into play until dusk.. Leupold VX6HD on the otherhand is a different story. You can actually see the illumination when it’s daylight. The motion sensor is a bonus as well so you don’t have to worry about leaving it on. Also the blinking illumination when you are a couple degrees off of level is a nice touch. State of the art technology and crystal clear glass with an eyebox second to none. Absolute the best in its price range if you are looking for a 2nd focal plane scope. For first focal plane the F1 SHV is hard to beat in its respective price range. If I had to stick with one it’s VX6HD all day! Not to mention the Alumina lens covers which are the nicest covers period & also comes with a magnification throw lever! These would normally tack on another $140 or so ($80 for covers $60 for a good throw lever) but are included! All in all sweet scope, holds zero, smooth controls , one downfall on my other vx6’s We’re the very stiff magnification dial but not on the new VX6HD. Leupold definitely addressed that and smoothed out the dial. You don’t even need a throw lever but ever since I used them there’s no going back, they really make things so much easier and without taking eye of target. I really cannot think of one con right now. Leupold has addressed the one and only con I had with my previous model. It’s absolutely 10/10 as far as I’m concerned. If anything arises I’ll update my review but so far it’s perfect, aesthetically (I guess I could live without the gold ring) but this does symbolize quality so I can deal with it. Functions perfectly, user friendly , smooth controls and I really like the Impact 29 reticle! Definitely takes the first spot of my previous favorite T-MOA reticle, I also have scopes in CMR as well as the classic duplex which all have its place.... Can’t go wrong with either... if you’re in need of an up to 18x power scope , look no further. You will not be disappointed!
