Most Helpful Positive Review Exceeds expectation for the money!
This scope is lighter weight and more compact than any other 3-10x40 scope I have found thus far. The field of view is great on 3.5X. I have had no trouble picking up deer at close range, and the 10X zoomed in the Cow Elk at 250 yards way closer than I needed for a 1 shot drop. The best part of this scope is the clarity and brightness which makes the detail and low light visibility second to none in this price range. Wonderful scope and will buy another.

Leupold VX3

by VX3, from FL, United States Written on May 22, 2017
Excellent scope for the money, great low light collection. Nice adjustability for the hunter who takes his sport seriously. I paired it with a 308 savage and they work great together. You can't go wrong with leupold products. Excellent customer service. I lost a windage adjustment cap and called them and they sent me one out, no questions asked.
Pros:
  • durable
  • light
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • target

Proven in the field and on the range

by Mike, from PA, United States Written on June 9, 2016
I had an exchange student at the range with me and using the Leupold 3.5-10x40 he split a pill bottle at 100 yards on his first ever shot from a hunting rifle. Sounds like bragging but I am able to sight-in using a postage stamp for a target. This durable scope has lasted more than 30 years without a hitch and has been responsible for the successful harvest of over 12 buck. I have since moved it to my heavy-barreled target rifle and now how an ultra-light Vari-X 2 on my mountain rifle. A little more up front in cost but the payback comes every time you mount the gun to your shoulder. I HIGHLY recommend this particular scope and the brand in general.
Pros:
  • Durablilty
  • Style, quality construction, durability
  • life-time warranty
Cons:
  • should come with lense cover
Best Used for:
  • hunting
  • target

Awesome scope

by NPD, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on February 9, 2016
This is an awesome scope. Clear picture, good light gathering, rugged, and good looking scope. It's sitting on my Winchester M70 Super Grade in .25-06. I have no complaints whatsoever. I like the reticle choices, as I don't like busy reticles for hunting. There is plenty of adjustment as far as wind age and elevation go. Adjustment is easy and precise. The scope holds zero perfectly. I have absolutely no complaints and enthusiastically recommend this scope for hunting.
Pros:
  • value
  • Durability
  • Appearance
  • Optical clarity
  • appropriate magnification
  • appropriate reticle
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • hunting

My favorite scope...period

by cesmorris, Verified Owner from VA, United States Written on January 18, 2016
I love the Leopold VX-3 in the 3.5-10x40. The light transmission, size, quality, everything makes this my favorite all around hunting scope from a company with great customer service. The weight is very reasonable and the 40mm size allows for relatively low mounts on the rifle.
Pros:
  • high quality, competitively priced, rugged.
Cons:
  • Not an inexpensive scope
Best Used for:
  • hunting

Leupold VX-3 3.5-10x40 mm Gloss

by Phil N, Verified Owner from UT, United States Written on January 6, 2016
I have used Leupold products for a long time! I've tried a few other brands but come back to quality.
I have used 3x9 power with great success but stepped up in power for my 300 Win. mag. The VX-3 so clear and sharp that it's a great help to aging eyes. Leupold quality and warranty can't be beat! Good Shooting and
Thanks.

Great Scope, high quality

by sleeper, Verified Owner from SC, United States Written on December 21, 2015
I have two of these, a couple of Nikons and a Zeiss. This is pretty much equal to the Zeiss. The turrets are a little more difficult to turn, but give positive click feedback. The crosshair is thinner than the Zeiss, I like the thicker of the Zeiss. The optic quality is excellent and I see a little better with it that the Nikon Monarch I use, could just be me. I have a black matt and the silver with a B+C crosshair, I like that crosshair for determining longer range, but it is more expensive. Final comments are this is a fine quality scope that I do not have any problems with and is a great choice for medium to large game from 50 yards out to 300 yards for my use.
Pros:
  • clear glass
  • quality, price, warranty
  • Clear glass at long range
  • positive clicks turrets
  • Boone and Crockett crosshair
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • medium to long range shooting

Great Product with B&C Reticle !!!

by GKJConsult, Verified Owner from AR, United States Written on December 20, 2015
This is the third scope like this I have purchased. The new model (this one) has a rubber eye piece that the older model do not have. Personally, I do not like it because the scope covers I normally use (Butler Creek) are not tight and I am not sure if they will stay on. The other option is to see if Leupold Aluminas will screw in. The optics are bright and clear and the scope is light compared to other manufacturers' similar scopes. The scope design is streamlined compared to others as well. I do like the newer feature of being able to move the adjustment knobs by hand instead of having to use a coin. I also like hearing the positive audible "click". I will say that the scope was not packed very well at all. It was packed in a box then the scope was inside the box without any support and was just moving around. I just received a Var-X I 2x7 and it was packed like they normally are with the scope inside pieces of Styrofoam. Performance was as expected from Leupold products - excellent !!! The B&C reticle works - the most difficult task of using it is trusting it and not reverting back to hold over points. I used mine on a 308 Norma Magnum clocked at 3,300 FPS with a 150 grain bullet and validated the Leupold B&C tables against the trajectory tables found in my loading manuals and applications from Federal and Winchester. I used Group "C" and the triangle setting that is as far as the power selector dial will move to the right which is the small triangle and zeroed for...

Leupold vx 3 3x9x40

by JM, Verified Owner from VA, United States Written on December 19, 2015
Very clear, sharp and bright scope. I like the rubber guard on the eyepiece and the kind of built in sun shade on the objective end. I like the click adjustment better than the friction type. I hope this scope is as reliable as my old vari-x 11 scopes have been.
Pros:
  • Clear and bright
Cons:
  • expensive - but worth it
Best Used for:
  • Hunting, range use

American Made Quality

by Joey, from NC, United States Written on October 26, 2015
I own many scopes, various brands, and found myself in need of another quality optic to top a deer rifle that I'm anticipating putting to use in the western NC mountains this fall. My needs are relatively simple, I want an attractive, lightweight, user friendly quality optic that can withstand the many bumps and bruises of a mountain hunt day and still perform as expected. My choice was the VX-3. It was a snap to mount the scope on the existing PRW bases, Clarity is crisp and clear edge to edge, and adjustments were precise allowing sight in only a few shots. The duplex recticle is simple, clear, and easily seen during the early morning and late evening. I'm not a fan of the BDC recticles, seems like way too much optical junk as most shots seldom exceed 250 yards which only requires a hunter to "think" a bit and modify their hold accordingly.
Pros:
  • finish, warranty, american made product
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • hunting
