Not recommended for target shooting at 100 yards - Leupold VX-3 3.5-10x40 mm Rifle Scope

I have a VX-2 4-12x40 and wanted to purchase a lightweight scope with better clarity for shooting paper targets at 100-500 yards. I chose the VX3 3.5-10x40 as it is a step up in clarity and I was advised that I would have no problem seeing bullet holes at 100 yards. I have 20/15 vision and the bottom line is that it was extremely difficult to see .30 cal bullet holes at 100 yards on 10x. I had big problems distinguishing shots that were close together that I could see clearly with my VX-2 on 12x. I would advise target shooters who want to see shots at 100 yards to pay the extra $50 dollars for the VX-3 4.5-14x40. Besides the lack of magnification, Myvrating reflects the overall quality and lightweight characteristics of the scope. It is probably the perfect scope for hunting big game.
