yosemite 6x30
6x30 provides enough magnification and brightness for just about everything. 8x really isn't that much different than 6x. The yosemite's optics are 97% as good as my "overpriced European binoculars" and it cost less than 100 bucks, is smaller and lighter, too. When armies were smarter, they used 6x30s for exactly these reasons; enough mag, 5.0 exit pupil, compact, light weight. Leopold went back to old school and got smart. They have a real winner here. Twist up eye cups are really neat.

Leupold Yosemite 6x30mm Red Binoculars 61170
Wrote a nice review. Received an email that it was included in website and that I should click on a link included in that email after 24 hours and I could see my review published. Well, I did that and guess what...no review. Sent an email to Customer Service and was told to wait 24 hours. Told them I already did that...still no review. Wrote again...no reply from Customer Service. I would be hesitant to ordeer from these people again. Their customer service sucks.

Great field of view and clear focus to edges. The waterproof capability and fine optics of these binocs offset any disadvantages, such as somewhat heavy hanging around the neck for an all day hike. But in real life there are always trade-offs.
