Chris's Review of Lucid Optics P7 Weapons Optic, 4x Picatinny Rail Mount, P7 Reticle Waterproof

My first impressions were good. It looked and sounded awesome inside, however in the real world it falls pretty short. My first and biggest gripe is the half MOA turret adjustments. They are way too crude for a 4x optic. One click moves the reticle 1/2 inch at 100 yards. That is fine for a CQB optic, but for a midrange optic it is garbage. At best you get minute-of-man zeroing abilities at 200+ yards.

Second complaint: The illumination just isn't bright enough. It is great indoors and the evening but in the middle of a bright day the illumination completely disappears against a white or light colored target. This isn't a deal breaker since the reticle is black when it isn't lit up, but it is highly disappointing.

Battery life is rather short (2500 hrs) compared to similarly priced products on the market. Most modern optics have at 10,000+ hr battery life.
Field of view is not spectacular, and eye relief is middle of the road. Better than some, worse than others.

Cons: The glass is clear, and the reticle is razor sharp. Controls are easy to use and placed on the left side so they can be operated with support hand only.

Hopefully Lucid will address some of this BS in the next generation. Too bad I already spent the money on this one.

Final verdict: You get what you pay for. Save up for an ACOG with a BDC reticle.
Pros:
  • clear glass
  • sharp reticle
  • good ergonomics
Cons:
  • Crude adjustments
  • Weak illumination
  • Poor battery life compared to other products on the market.
Best Used for:
  • 300 yards and under.
