Worked okay when it was brand new. Started getting screen blips and screen freeze-up after about 4 months. This continued throughout the warranty period. Talked to Lyman rep and was told well if it reset when powered down and then operates normally there is nothing we can do. Well shortly after the warranty period ended it failed. Lyman said they would give me a discount on a new one. Talked to 2 different reps and was told different amounts of discount from each rep. I ended up passing on this offer as the conflicting information I was given left me feeling disconcerted about this product in general.
If your intent is to use the bore-scope on a regular basis as mine was I would recommend looking at other bore-scopes. Mine currently resides in the local landfill.

Great item my husband loves it. The only gun it can not be used on is the 17. He is even going to buy accessories for it so he can maybe use it for the 17. I would recommend this item to anyone who loves guns and has a few.

Excellent product! Fits in a twenty caliber barrel, Hawkeye bore scope doesn’t! A quarter the price between the two of them! I could easily see copper and carbon fouling! I could tell wether or not how my cleaning of the bore was working!
Pros:
- fits twenty caliber barrels! Great price!
Cons:
- Possibly a brighter light! But you can shine a light through the muzzle!

So there’s been alot of internet hubbub about two different resolutions of camera. I just talked directly to Lyman and the only difference between gen 1 and gen 2 is a fixed versus retractable kickstand on the back of the display unit. The resolution is the same.

It works. Shows you everything in a 22 cal barrel. Lands, grooves, copper, carbon, fire cracking( 22cal center fire) and tooling marks. The graduations on the rod make it easy to work on trouble spots. The screen is easy to see and the detail is good. The angled mirror works good. The light is bright ( you can turn it down if barrel is to reflective. I haven’t tried the camera yet. The thing does everything I expected it to do. You can take the guess work out of cleaning the bore.

I have been trying to convince myself that I needed a borescope for sometime, l finally bought this Lyman borescope after reading the reviews and I have to say it is everything that I thought it would be. I have been using a friends Lyman borescope to inspect the rifling in a 222 Remington I have and it is impressive.
Using my borescope is very easy and has excellent clarity , after unpacking the scope and reading the directions it was a simple process to put it to use. As other people have said when you look down your barrel you maybe shocked at the condition of your barrel, that being said it is an invaluable tool when buying a used firearm and if you want to KNOW if your barrel is clean this will tell you. YOU must remember it is not a $600.00 borescope it has some limitations, the built in reflective lens that converts the borescopes view from forward looking to a 90 degree view looking at the rifling is made of a material that maybe damaged by oils or cleaning solutions. So it is important to run a dry cleaning patch down the barrel to remove any accumulated oil etc BEFORE you put the scope in the barrel or chamber, just that simple. You will like it

Generation two has better resolution.this unit is gen one . I expected the most resent version, but that’s not the case.it works but resolution is not as good as newest version.I would expect the best frome OpticsPlanet since I order from there web site often and there reputation is good , or was good with me and my fellow shooters.

I would rate this borescope as high as any other. I thought my barrels were clean until I ran the bore scope through them. I found that I had removed all the carbon build up, but the barrels were still fouled with copper. This borescope is one of the best tools you can buy to check for throat erosion and barrel fouling.

I bought this borecam to keep a eye on my throats and how clean I was getting my barrel. So far it has been great! The camera seems clear enough for the intended purpose and it's a valuable item to have when you are taking care of your rifles.

First I'll say that if the unit would have worked for more than a couple hours, I'd probably give it 4-5 stars. It's not nearly as nice of a picture as some of the higher price options but it's also only $200. The pictures are good enough to see bore damage and also if your cleaning regime is working.
That said my unit was DOA out of the box twice! First the power cable that goes between the USB power adapter and the display unit was dead, not a huge deal I had another micro USB cable around. Once that was replaced it worked pretty well for a couple hours, and then the light in the wand started flickering and just stopped working, but the camera continued to function, but without the light it's worthless. Not sure if it was the camera/wand unit, something in the cable, or the display unit.
So after two major issues out of the box, I sent it back for a refund.
If they put some more $ into it, making a better display, and higher quality parts, they could double the price to $400, and it would still be half the price of the next best option. The quality is really really lacking and it seems like people either get one that works, or is a total lemon like mine.
