Doesn't confirm brass dimensions And can't discern 38 from 357 Since you check both in same hole And both rounds are different lengths The multiple cals tells well but if the block is all same length It doesn't check coal Had some rounds that dropped right in this block But didn't fit in...

how does it check for sammi spec if it allows brass over max length to git flush like it's in spec

by Josh A, Verified Owner from AL, United States Written on June 20, 2025
Got these to easily check brass length before loading. If it supposedly checks for sammi spec and headspace then i should be able to put a piece of brass in the guage and if it's over max case length then it shouldn't fit flush in the guage. But it does.

Loaded ammo or not, it should be verifying the case length because if the brass is over max length then it won't fit in any in spec chamber.

I've put pieces of brass that are 0.01" over max length and they still fit flush in the guage like they're good to go. Anyone that knows anything about loading ammunition knows that 0.01" over is a lot. The difference between most cases min and max length is 0.01". So another 0.01" over max is a lot.

Do not buy these. They're absolutely useless.

It's an ammo checker

by slacker, from TN, United States Written on April 14, 2016
Purchased this checker in spite of the color. It is well made and is very accurate. It takes care of all the pistol calibers that I am currently reloading. The color is close to the TN Vols orange and I can live with that being a TN resident. As always Optics Planet rocks on pricing and service. Thank you OP!

Great Lyman Product

by Gary G., Verified Owner from TN, United States Written on August 30, 2015
I use these blocks on every rifle round I reload. Ensures that the brass has the correct dimensions for length and diameter so they fit my rifle chambers every time. Quick and easy. Don't like the color but other than that, I'm sold on the usefulness of these blocks.

Cartridge Checker

Wish I would have discovered this gem years ago. Works simply and easily, and takes the headache out of making sure your ammunition will function reliably based on its external dimensions. A must have for the reloading bench.
