Rick's Review of Magpul Industries Bolt Action Magazine Well Kit Hunter 700la Standard

Well it fits perfect in the Hunter LA stock. It runs well with the 30-06.

However a couple of things I don't like.

Both the stock and the mag well have squared openings. This meant my bottom metal didn't work with the stock and I HAD to upgrade to this mag well.
This mag system means no more side dropping 1 round. You HAVE to have them in the mag to get it to feed properly. A bit of a disappointment, as the 700's selling point for me has been feeding one round without pushing it into the mag.

This bottom "metal" will not fit the SPS threaded stock. Sorry. It will require major fitting. I had hoped it would as it turned out the Magpul Hunter stock was too heavy for my liking. Its made for a much beefier setup than a medium 20" 30-06. Better suited to a 300 win mag long range platform with a heavy barrel.

The mag release is very tight and its hard to get a mag seated. It feels almost like seating a 30 rounder AR mag on a closed bolt! You have to give it a good whack.

The fact that the bottom "metal" and mag are in the box at 70 something bucks, is an awesome deal. Despite the detractors. If you have a heavy barrelled 25-06, 30-06, 6.5-06, or 35 Whelen, then get this set up (this and the stock). its solid and works great. If you have a medium or penciled barrel, go back to the drawing board.

Note not related to item itself* OpticsPlanet is getting a bit lazy with the shipments. It used to be within 48 hours of printing you would see it show up. Now the items sit on a shelf after printing up to a week!!! And they try to claim its USPS, however the item didn't get scanned until nearly a week after printing. Obviously OpticsPlanet is either not dropping these off or not setting up pickup's properly.
Pros:
  • value
  • Reliabilty
Cons:
  • Fit
  • function
