I gave this 5 stars because it is well made and the dot is very bright so maybe the mistake was mine in ordering the wrong thing? BUT I ordered this to use as an aid to polar alignment and as a pointer to occasionally use showing deep space objects to friends, unfortunately while having a very bright dot with good distance it’s beam is almost nonexistent. If you squint your eyes directly down the beam at night you can make out something’s there but it disappears as soon as you move out from the laser at all so unless something’s amiss it was useless pointing the night sky. I do have a cheep one I bought from another source online as a comparison and using them side by side the cheep one provides a bright very useful beam for astronomy but the Marathon nothing in exactly the same everything.
