No tritium on second hand, crystal too high and exposed.

by xdandeman, from MO, United States Written on June 29, 2024
I saw so much Hype about Marathon watches I thought the Marathon Pilot would be an upgrade from my older Luminox Navy Seals watch, boy was I disappointed. The crystal on Marathon sits high above the case so it bangs on things, the watch is also so square it snags on things. The worst part is they were so cheap they didn't put a tritium tube on the second hand! It can't be seen in the dark! The Marathon GP does have a tube on the second hand but it's so far out it's mixed among the dial tubes, not as easy to read. Luminox crystal is recessed under the sloped bezel and second hand tube is inside of dial tubes, much better watch.

Depends on what you're looking for

by Mike G, Verified Owner from NV, United States Written on April 19, 2024
I picked this up looking for a tritium quartz with a rotating bezel and fit 20mm or 22mm bracelet for everyday wear watch.

The good: My second hand lined up with the markers, which is a rarity on these trit watches. Movement is precise and doesn't bounce. Tritium and dial look great. Bezel action is fine. It's thin but wider than other marathon models, and has a solid metal feel.

The bad: Not well finished at all, with gritty crown action and rough parkarization. Not sure I trust it's 200 meter water resistant rating because the crown action is so rough. Obvious it was just assembled.

The Ugly: The lugs which are advertised at 20mm, were to thin to fit strapcode or miltat metal straight end bracelets. Leather bands will suffer damage as if they were stuffed in a 19mm. I returned the watch for this reason as well as for the money, I expected more... competitive. So if you're looking to put this on a quality metal strap, beware it probably won't fit. But if you're Canadian and willing to tinker, you gotta get it.
Pros:
  • Movement, Tritium, Feels solid
Cons:
  • 20mm Metal bracelets will not fit, rough finishing
Best Used for:
  • Raw milspec trit wat to tinker on
