7.62x39 The Easy Way
I wanted to add a 7.62x39 to my AR lineup and I went through my parts bin to see what I had and started thinking about what I would need to buy or change. A few of my AR friends were pretty discouraging about how they had tried it and had very unreliable results for various reasons. Ultimately I d...

Barrel out of spec with upper receiver
This barrel is out of spec with the upper receiver which is causing the blot carrier group to get jammed into the barrel…. I’ve contacted Maximum Defense to get an update on this issue…. Waiting to hear back
Fun Bang Bang
Slapped this upper on an sbr lower grabbed some super and subs and hit the range. Both lancer and magpul mags and it ate everything. But right 250 rounds not a single issue loving it so far.
Can't wait for more range time

556 upper receiver won't cycle the 223 cartridge.
There is an issue with cycling 223 cartridge to the 556 upper receiver. I was able to isolate the cause. I sent it for repair in maxim defense, but after they replaced the barrel, gasblock, the issue is still there. The last reply they gave me are as follows. So it seems that this is a universal issue with their upper. With this price range, it seems ridiculous that it will only run 556 ammo. Other upper that are way cheaper don't have this issue.
The PDX 5.56 is built and tuned for 5.56.
.223 is not recommended, it is too soft of a load and may not run well.

Fantastic 7.62x39 upper
This is the second Maxim Defense PDX upper that I purchased. Both are 7.62x39. I mounted it on an Aero precision lower with a trigger tech trigger, and run the JP H2 buffer system. It runs flawlessly, I use 20 or 28 round Duramag magazines. Never a hiccup, Runs smooth but does have a fireball at the muzzle.
It is truly a robust upper., solidly built. It is the most fun gun that I own.

Maxim Defense 5.56 Upper
Awesome upper, rings steel at 100 yards all day. I had ZERO malfunctions using in semi auto and in Echo Mode (Fostech echo sport). I used with an H1 buffer, I may try out an H2 just to slow it down some. I’m buying another in 7.62x39 to build another pistol. This is a great set up when you can’t carry a rifle, I carry mine in a Vertx Commuter XL 2.0 with room to spare. Buy this upper if you want a compact reliable all around fun gun!!!
Pros:
- compact
- Accurate
- relaible
- Spits fire
Cons:
- None
Best Used for:
- fun
