Most Helpful Positive Review Makes a nice gift for a child
I wanted to give my cousin something unique but had an extremely limited budget. This was perfect! Just $20, but he loves it and thinks it's so neat.
Most Helpful Negative Review faulty product
This product came free with the purchase of a telescope. I have 10 yr. old who was excited about the microscope. After the batteries were installed the light would not stay on. The light would flicker on and off even after many attempts to adjust settings and batteries. It still does not work. ...

Piece of Crap!

by Legacy Reviewer, from WA, United States Written on January 12, 2009
This product does not work at all. I tried for hours, I can't see through the microscope. There's suppose to be a light under the slide but that does not work either. My friends and family tried too and nothing. If adults can't get it to work, I don't see how kids can use it. I got it for free, so I guess I got my money's worth.
Pros: it was free
Cons: does not work at all

Good basic first time microscope

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from MI, United States Written on November 21, 2008
I bought this for my 5 year old nephew who is very into science. Yes, it's plastic and not the highest quality lense but was perfect for our situation. No, this is not the microscope for you if you have an older child who is into science and wants more detail. It is a great microscope for a first timer to learn on.
Pros: Inexpensive
Cons: Not the best quality

Doesn't work!

by Legacy Reviewer, from WA, United States Written on November 1, 2008
This is not worth $20. It is so cheaply made I was very disappointed when I got it. And we tried to use it and it doesn't even work.
Pros: none
Cons: doesn't work

Not what I expected

by Legacy Reviewer, from WA, United States Written on October 28, 2008
I purchased this microscope for my 7 year old son. I have 10+ years of experience working with microscopes and was unable to get an image with this unit. Quality is terrible, cheap plastic with horrific optics.

Cheap Kids' Microscope!

by Legacy Reviewer, from WA, United States Written on October 23, 2008
this microscope kit is a great value for your money. I bought it for my kid who's been asking for a microscope forever now, kept him busy for a few hours with all the different accessories.

Would not be able to see bacteria, but for $20 what do you expect.

It's a great gift for a young child who is starting to learn about small objects.
Pros: Inexpensive, great for getting kids interested in microscopy

unsatisfied customer

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from NE, United States Written on October 17, 2008
I was very disappointed. The quality and usability was poor. My 13, who was extremely excited walked away pretty bummed. The nobs are cheap and feel like they will break as you turn them to focus, and the light doesn't work after 2 minutes.
Pros: inexpensive
Cons: plastic toy that worked for 2 minutes
Would recommend: No

Garbage

by Legacy Reviewer, from WA, United States Written on October 16, 2008
I got this microscope for $7 shipped, and I still regret buying it. It's complete garbage. The focus knob sticks so it's hard to turn. The lenses must be made out of plastic with visible deformities. When you look at an object through the microscope, it's hard to differentiate between the crud on the lens and the thing you're looking at. The whole thing weighs 8 ounces, and it's 99% plastic. I bought this as a gift for my six-year-old daughter, and I'm afraid that this microscope is so bad that it will actually turn her off science. I think I'll keep the accessories (which are nice), and donate the scope to Good Will.
Pros: Comes with lots of accessories for beginners
Cons: Poor construction, lenses are dirty
