Meade Standard Field Tripod
I bought this tripod to replace an older model Meade standard field tripod damaged in shipping.
The old model had two tighteners per leg, the new one has only one on each leg. With a heavy, expensive scope mounted on it... I'd feel better with the two, just in case!
Pros: Very solid feel
Cons: two tighteners on each leg now reduced to one.
Work as expected
Very sturdy tripod. You do have to play around the center bolt spacer rings that hold down the spring a bit so that they don't interfere the base of the scope during the setup. It's good to put some some thread lock on the spacers thread to prevent them from turning and keep them stay in place. Other than that, very good tripod for my Meade LX-90 12" ACF.

Meade Standard Tripod
This tripod is more cheaply made than the Meade tripod it replaced. The tripod legs have only one lock per leg, as opposed to two per leg on the older model. The locking nuts are plastic rather than metal and the parts were loose in the box when it arrived. It is adequate for my purposes (i.e., a small solar scope); but, I was disappointed with Meade for the shoddy workmanship.
