Wick's Review of Meopta MeoPro 80 HD Angled 20-60x80 Spotting Scope

I had my eye on this one for a long time and finally able to afford it, was very excited to get it and I'm not
disappointed to say the least. Having looked through some $2-3k plus spotters, at least for me, the differences are
not worth the extra cost. I am confident I have the spotting scope that is everything I will ever want and or need.

The carry case that comes with it is a good one however I opted to get a NIghtforce TS-80 case for the extra storage space and being a harder shell for added protection. It fits absolutely perfectly as well as the stay on cover by Nightforce.

My magnification dial did seem to have a tiny bit of play and at first would get slightly stuck at the max magnification
setting. Calling Meopta, I was pleasantly surprised that their customer service is excellent and fast. I was actually
contemplating not calling at all as the issue was so minor and in fact worked it's way smoother and possibly just needed a bit of breaking in... but the rep I spoke to said let's take a look at it. I sent it in as instructed, within a couple of days after they received it, a brand spankin new one was sent to me. I have to say that I am very impressed and am 100% that I made the right choice with this spotter and this top notch company.

I dealt with a big name company with a red dot optic that was defective, I'll leave unnamed but it is arguably #1, definitely a top 2 or 3 optic company and let me tell you it was a painful process, it was days in between returned emails and initially after talking to someone about it, looked for every reason under the sun not to have to deal with it, asking me as stupid of a question as "have you tried lowering the brightness as you may have it too bright"?? give me a break! eventually after a few painful weeks of very slow responses back and forth, emailing pictures as instructed etc, it was finally replaced but my experience with Meopta really just made me appreciate
their customer service that much more...

I know I can rest assured for life with the lifetime warranty.

It is a bit on the heavy side but I don't plan on trekking miles with it so that won't affect me at all, size is manageable enough that for the hunting that I would ever do, will work just fine for me but I'm on foot no more than 1-2 miles at the most. If you were trekking a lot more than that, a smaller and lighter spotter may be better for you but other than that I cannot find any other con. The price point is a bargain for the quality of this scope, I myself prefer angled viewer, if you prefer a straight then of course unfortunately this particular model isn't available in that configuration & the eye piece is fixed as well which for me is totally fine.

lighting is fantastic in my opinion, I looked through some 100mm objective spotters that were inferior so this was a
very nice surprise. I even play with it at night sometimes and it is amazing. Looking at the moon is fun as well, the kids were blown away. For target uses, I only used it up to about 330 yards and could easily see the bullet holes
on paper. I haven't gotten to use it for paper targets further than that yet but was able to see the bullet marks on painted steel target at about 550 yards... Hits and misses on steel targets well pass 700 yards or so was easy to see... I'm pretty sure 1000+ yards for steel hits and misses wouldnt be a problem as well although I haven't gotten a chance to try that yet...

Colors and clarity is vivarant, looking at birds and trees/flowers at distance is just amazing. Though I am far from an avid birdwatcher so take that with a grain of salt. I am so excited I had to write a review for this Spotting scope.
I really am enjoying it so much that I look for any excuse to bring it out.

If I had to nit pick cons, Id say maybe the weight and the fixed eye piece as well as the magnification and focus dials are a little firm but in a way that's a plus as you don't have to worry about bumping them and moving them.. these are the only things that I can see that may be a con to some. I actually like the weight as it feels like quality weight to me and it's a little more stable in the breeze as well. The eye piece is everything I ever would want or need and more so the fixed eye piece is also not a con for me.. It's an easy 5 stars for me.
Pros:
  • High quality exceeds price point
Cons:
  • firm dials, fixed eye piece, weight?
Best Used for:
  • observing, target, some hunting, bird watching digiscoping..
