Most Helpful Positive Review Nice little tritium sight for chump change
I thought this installation was going to be challenging but it was among the easiest of the upgrades I made to my Mossberg 500. My 5/40 threaded bead came right out using a pair of pliers (be careful) and a test fit of the Tru-Dot revealed that, like other reviewers, I'd need to file the post dow...

Meprolight Tru-Dot Really Good Sight

by Jason, Verified Owner from FL, United States Written on October 5, 2025
I mounted this on a Mossberg 590A1 until I have time to mount a more permanent solution. This does not co-witness, but you can still pick it up. Meprolight makes solid equipment.

Does not fit mossberg 500

by Jackson, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on September 26, 2024
This sight does not have a post to screw into the barrel hole. Designed for a rail with a flat mounting surface.

Did not fit my mossberg 500

by BenB2200, Verified Owner from WI, United States Written on March 29, 2023
This sight showed up and after much excitement, my gunsmith took on the task of installing. After numerous modifications to the sight it still protruded through the end of the barrel and did not fit right. It simply doesn't line up. This is 100% not a replacement part. This is a waste of money and you are better of with a HIVIZ system. I will be looking to return this item and hopefully receive a refund. If you are looking at this as a replacement for the bronze bead on your Mossberg 500, look elsewhere.
Pros:
  • None. Waste of time and money
Cons:
  • Not the correct replacement part.
Best Used for:
  • Wasting your time and money

Missing thread on the sight.

by CB, Verified Owner from MT, United States Written on February 12, 2022
After reading the reviews I thought it was a safe bet, so I purchased three. I should have just stayed with the bead sight and saved my time and money. I expect better quality from Meprolight. I thread the front sight on with ease and went to make sure the sight was straight and lined up on the firearm. I then realized that the front sight was spinning freely. So I unthreaded the sight and check the my inside diameter thread no problem there. So I check the outside diameter thread on the sight and the threading located closes to the base of the front sight is none existent. So if you want to spend $30+ on a shotgun sight, install it and realize it's a piece of junk and that it will most like fly off the end of your shotgun once fired then have to take the time to remove the sight and replace it back with the original bead sight then this is the sight for you. The one star is for the tritium by the way.
Pros:
  • Tritium was still bright.
Cons:
  • Poor quality.
  • Showed up defective.
  • Would not tighten.
  • Did not thread down to the barrel with any tention
Best Used for:
  • Inducing frustration
  • Waisting Money
  • Waiting for replacement...lol.
  • Waisting time.

Nice and easy to install

by Jimmy, Verified Owner from LA, United States Written on July 17, 2021
It needs a little bit of TLC when installing, some lock tight to keep it in line as it will over turn in alignment, no problem though, I put it on my 930 breacher barrel, used a little lock tight to keep it in-line, cured over night and I’m pleased with the sight, especially the minimal cost,
Pros:
  • EASY INSTALL
Cons:
  • Plastic threads but no problem
Best Used for:
  • Night Sights

High quality product- dovetail only or bead sight modification

by Echo4Whiskey, from KY, United States Written on July 19, 2020
This is a high quality product and works great (with caveat). So I bought the one that sits higher with a dovetail mount, but my Mossy has the front bead sight. I really wanted THIS sight, so I did some modification (knowing that this would void warranty) as follows: Drill hole in bottom center (Meprolight) just large enough to accept the round bead and deep enough to equal the distance between top of bead and surface of barrel. Next drill counter sink just wide and deep enough in the base of the first hole to allow for the hex/nut portion of the base of the bead. The sight should now sit on top of the bead sight and flush with the barrel. Degrease work area. Apply liberal amount of epoxy to inside of hole and outside of existing bead sight and assemble. Note- Do not remove bead sight, leave on barrel and retrofit. ONLY drill holes just large enough for your mod as there is very little clearance in the sight post for slop or you risk weakening the sight/breaching the outer surface of it. That said, this sight works great and I am happy with it!

Sweet shotgun bead sight replacement

by Eddie, Verified Owner from VA, United States Written on June 6, 2020
I didn’t like the brass bead sight that came on my shotgun which offered no low light use whatsoever. This sight is very low profile compared to other replacement sights I looked into. Installation was super easy. This sight is really small and can potentially be lost easily if your not paying attention or clumsy.
