cegibbs3's Review of Mesa Tactical Truckee Forend

I installed this on a registered SBS with a 14.5 barrel. I purchased the short and longer versions to compare and I ended up keeping the longer one.
PROS:
1) Looks and feels great!
2) Installation is not fun but, it does not damage the weapons finish in anyway.
3) Does the job!
CONS:
1) Installation was a bear! I installed it and removed it three times in an effort to find the easiest way and there isn't one. I recommend that you eat your Wheaties and/or a can a spinach in preparation for the installation. I called Mesa for tips after the third brutal installation and the guy I spoke to told me that it simply isn't a pleasant experience and there is no easy way to do it. Anyway, the cuts on my right hand finally healed after about a week and a half so it's all good now!
2) The fit is pretty solid without a vertical grip but, there is movement with one installed on it. Nothing to get excited about, once you apply rearward pressure on the grip everything becomes rock solid.
3) You will need an aftermarket M-Lok attachment receiving point for a QD sling install.
4) Unless you like the rectangular m-lok vertical grips that dominate the market you'll also need a small picatinny rail attachment for the bottom of the hand guard so you can put a normal round vertical grip on it. I always use the Daniel Defense grips, user preference.
5) Because of the self cleaning pistons on the M4 you shouldn't have to remove the rail often and that's a blessing! But, if it gets wet under there you're in for a bad time! My tip to you is to take your time!
