MFT who gave us what’s become the universal lightweight Minimalist buttstock has some amazing polymer products that really work.
If you’ve got an AK-47 stamped receiver, this design will allow you to mount a red dot sight that holds zero better than Midwest Industries barrel-clamped design and runs cooler than the Ultimak design that locks down the gas tube to provide a secure rail. It’s secure and it’s a test of your optic to see if it BBQs.
The MFT Tekko holds the rail above - and away from - the gas tube, secured to the lower guard by four stud screws tightened into the bottom guard. It’s like a rail on a canopy held firmly above the hot, vibrating gas tube. The bottom guard is a tight fit, but once the front and rear snap in their notches, it DOES NOT move. It has tabs that look like they’d fit into the top tube flanges, but to reduce vibration you should trim away any part of the tabs that contact the upper guard. It’s less prone to the effects of barrel harmonics because it’s not clamped to the barrel.
It sells for about $40. Compare that with designs that can’t do what the Tekko does.
Pros:
- rugged
- Inexpensive
- great appearance
- Holds zero
- simple and clever
Cons:
- does not fit milled receive

There are MANY AK-47 front handrails for sale all over the internet-they seem to be differently engineered & priced. I think that this unit-the MFT Tekko has got to be the best quality, design, and value available for the money. I have bought 3 different AK-47 front handguards from 3 other manufacturers- with prices up to 4 TIMES what this costs- and this one is - by far- the best. Now- don't get me wrong- you are going to have to fiddle with it a bit with a sharp tool (like a razor knife) to get a perfect fit-but once you patiently do that (took me a half hour) the final fit was perfect & ROCK SOLID- plus the top rail lined up perfectly. I think the design of this rail differs from all the others (making it superior) because it uses 4 additional vertical screws to lock the upper & lower rail together for added strength & stability. Plus it comes with a nice looking detachable bottom rail cover to keep your grip comfortable if not using the bottom rail. This is an important accessory if your AK-47 did not come with a side rail mounting option and you would like to add a red dot sight.
Pros:
- quality, design, strength, price
Cons:
- slight fitting adjustment necessary
Best Used for:
- mounting red dot sights on AK-47

I got this to modify a friend's Hungarian AMD-63. It works so much better than the sheet metal handguard with the angled fore grip that comes with the weapon. And improve the look of the weapon, and the rail on top is rock solid. The only caveat is the rail on the top of the hand guard sits a little high. You must use a low profile red dot sight, otherwise you need a cheek-piece/riser for your butt stock.
Pros:
- well built
- Excellent value
- Easy to install and use
- mounting points for accessories
Cons:
- rail mount is slightly high

My AK came 'in polymer' w/o 'options-capabilities'
Now have sight/light/laser capacities...essentially, a 'new' gun.
Install was a breeze...dare I say, even,...fun?!
Highly recommended (even though wood furniture is beautiful...if a problem, just buy another AK!)

I purchased this handguard set for an AMD-65. I was not fond of the vertical grip and exposed gas tube. These handguards solved the problem for me.
These are light.
These are sturdy.
They were pretty easy to install. It did require the use of a rubber mallet though.

Doesn't fit saiga rifle without modifying rifle
Need to change gas tube and buy a retaining ring
Not out of the box replacement
If going to replace gas tube anyway recommend Troy gas tube rail instead which just drops in

I have had many AKs and many accessories to configure these guns for specific applications. For my purposes the MFT forward hand guard is an ideal, ridged design that provides a stable platform for a red dot sight.
The side rails are removable if not needed so that the hand guard is smooth to handle and compact.
I think it is a good ergonomic design and a stable platform.

This is by far the best of the polymer handguards! The upper handguard was too short for my Romanian WUM1 AK, but because it bolts to the lower handguard at two points on either side, its a rock steady solid fit. If you're on a budget or perhaps if weight is an issue and you'd like to replace your wood furniture with something lighter, then you simply cant beat this product. I'm satisfied with the product and it's performance, but in hindsight I wish I'd spent a little more and gone with an aluminum alloy handguard instead. other than that, this is an outstanding handguard.
Pros: upper handguard bolts to lower for a solid fit on any AK
Cons: no heat shield, upper handguard is slightly too short for my Romanian WUM1

The MFT Tekko foregrip is really great. Yeah, I would have loved an aluminum one, but not for three times the price. It was fairly easy to install on my SAR AK with stamped reciever. I love it so far. The side picatinny rails can be removed if you dont want to use them. The thing looks really nice.
Pros: Fairly easy install, looks great, quality seems good
Cons: None

This is an awesome product!! Installation was easy. The directions were simple & easy to follow. Great replacement for the original wood furniture. Or if you are looking for some rails without the whole thing being covered in them.
