johnchip's Review of Midwest Industries Combat Rail HD M-LOK Handguard

I have always been a huge fan of Midwest Industries handguards and when the new HD version was released I was very excited to buy one. I bought the 9.25" version for a 10.3" duty grade 300 blackout upper build and it came out perfect. The Midwest Industries Combat Rail HD Handguard brings some nice upgrades over the standard Combat Series handguards. It has steel re-enforced QD sling mounts, a more ridged lock up system, thicker anti-rotation tabs, wider and taller inner dimensions so no worries about the gas block getting in the way and a longer barrel nut for minimal point of impact shift if you are mounting lights, lasers or NV aiming devices. This handguard is like a fusion of the Combat Series, Night Fighter Series and T-Series. It is heavier than the standard Combat Series and you do lose full 7 sided m-lock in place of lighting cuts but it does have full 7 sided m-lock slots on the front of the handguard. The top of the rail is identical to the Night Fighter series in the way the picatinny rail is designed and looks. It still has the t-marks on the top of the rail like all MI handguards have. It is perfect if you are looking for a duty grade free float handguard or one that you plan to use for mounting lights, lasers, and NV aiming devices on. If you are looking for something more slim and light weight then this may not be for you. Overall it is a very nice and high quality handguard that I know I can trust.
Pros:
  • EASY INSTALL
  • designed for maximum rigidity and extreme use
  • heavy duty anti-rotation tabs
  • steel anti-rotation QD sockets
  • longer barrel nut
Cons:
  • none for me
Best Used for:
  • AR Platform
