Most Helpful Positive Review MI URR is for pimps
This is the only correct receiver rod to loosen barrel nuts. You can split (as I have done) your receiver at the indexing pin slot or barrel nut if using a Geissele or Magpul BEV block. Works just as great for torquing as well. Highly recommended.
Most Helpful Negative Review Sail was clocked waaay off
The sail was visibly hanging to one side. Its so tight in the barrel extension and upper, it won't fit unless the two line up just-so, yet the tool is mistimed. What a joke. Apparently this isn't a long enough review for the wibsite, so I'll add it took me weeks to connect with MI for replacement. I...

Action Rod

by Dale, Verified Owner from OH, United States Written on March 29, 2026
Action Rod is as described. Used for an AR-10 build, firm lockup within the lugs and of high quality, leagues better than the wheeler rod that I also own. Highly recommend.
Pros:
  • Dimensional tolerances
Cons:
  • price
Best Used for:
  • adding/removing muzzle devices, gas blocks, handgards and optics

This is a must have

by Bro, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on March 20, 2026
If you have an AR you need this, another buy once cry once tool. Don't bother with any other tools or cheaper tods, this is what you will need of you intend on doing any work on your rifle.

This one doesn't work on 3 different ar 15's. PSA, AERO, S&W.

Doesn't fit the rifles I used it on. PSA, AERO, S&W. I don't know if this is normal but I won't buy another one.

Works great. Perfect tool for the job. Wouldnt torque barrel or muzzle device without it. Gives me an excuse to build more ar-10s

Great product!

Must have for removing stubborn barrel nuts or installing a barrel! No longer have to use my soft jaw vise inserts or worry about scratching/bending the receiver.

Midwest URR

by Ben Young, Verified Owner from MS, United States Written on March 8, 2026
The tool supports the reciever adequately for barrel removal. It is a well made and heavy duty tool. I would like the fit in the barrel extension to be a bit tighter. I use a clamshell reciever fixture along with the URR for more assurance that the reciever doesn't flex during barrel removal. This combination works great.

GAME CHANGER

by YankeeBluejeans, Verified Owner from MN, United States Written on February 28, 2026
Nice tight fit in all in-spec uppers and barrel extensions. This tool ensures gas port and front sight alignment. It also acts like a gauge in assembled guns.

I've been wrenching on ARs for over 30 years. This adds to what the Geissele Reaction Rod does by adding a sail that engages the upper receiver, keeping alignment during torque. The sail is removable but there is no reason to.

If you have a really tight barrel nut, use this and a clam shell together to keep from breaking the upper and/or the index pin. Lifesaver for gorillas!
