Rock solid lockup for working on ar uppers - Midwest Industries Upper Receiver Rod

The Geissele Reaction Rod was a great innovation but reports of bending or breaking barrel index pins are not uncommon. Yikes! Midwest Industries solves the issue by adding a removable steel "sail" that fits snugly into the charging handle slot relieving stress from the barrel index pin.

These receiver rods (I have the ar15 and ar10 version) are snug. When mounting the rod vertically in a vise, downward pressure is required to slide the upper down until it locks into the barrel extension lugs. The benefit is the upper is held solidly in place with zero play or wobble.

I still keep an upper block that pins into the mating lugs in one vise for simple work where slop is acceptable. But for torquing barrel nuts, muzzle devices or any work that requires a rock solid interface the MI rods are superb.
