Chris Gualtieri's Review of Midwest Industries Upper Receiver Rod
As the title says, as far “must have” tools for an AR-15 go, this falls just short of an armorers wrench. It’s seriously that good. The steel they used to make this reaction rod is fantastic quality too. I needed to put a couple of muzzle brakes on but decided to wait until this tool showed up. I am SOOO glad I did! It came with an allen key, but I didn’t need to use it. I put quite a bit of force on the muzzle brakes and this tool just laughed at it. I LOVED that I had the ability to work on my upper in a variety of different positions. One of the brakes I installed was a Spike’s Tactical Dynacomp Extreme. It has a mark on the bottom of it to be lined up with the bottom of the barrel. I don’t know why they marked it on the bottom, but they did. Without this reaction rod, my job would have been Extremely (pun intended) difficult, especially because I have a zeroed rifle on it. I was seriously debating on whether I should get the Geissele reaction rod or this one. After watching several videos and reading a bunch of reviews, I decided on this one. More torque a can be applied using this tool because of how it disperses stress to the entire upper and not just the splines on the barrel. They even put a groove in so you can easily work on the dust cover! Overall I’m extremely impressed with this tool. It’s a high quality tool that I will use over and over again. If you’re debating on what reaction rod to get, stop. This is the one you’re looking for.
