meatmachineman's Review of Minox ZV 3 4.5-14x44 Rifle Scope
I have owned several Minox ZA series scopes over the last few years that I've been able to purchase at decent prices. When they introduced the ZV, I was very disappointed to learn they were made in China. I finished putting together a target 10-22 and figured I'd go ahead and give the ZV a whirl. I was quite impressed by the image. Not long after getting the scope I was going to do some side by side testing on a group of scopes using a 1951 USAF Resolution Chart. Included were a Vortex Viper, Minox ZA, Zeiss Conquest, Swarovski Habicht, Nikon Monarch, and Burris FFII. During broad daylight, the ZV was comparable to the Conquest and ZA. It was just a hair behind the Swarovski. I thought I was popping crazy pills. As light faded, the real story appeared and explained the lower price. Image quality fell quickly. It still performed favorably over the Burris in low light but was nowhere near as good as the higher priced stuff I was testing. If low light is critical, spend more money. If you need something on a daytime rifle, I doubt you could beat this scope for the dollars spent.
Pros: daylight clarity; price
Cons: low-light ability; stiff magnification adjustment.
