Most Helpful Positive Review Best scope in it's price range
I had very good experience with the Mueller Optics 4.5-14x40mm AO APV Black Riflescope, which I mounted on my Savage Mark II. Now I looked out for a scope particularly suitable for a H&R Handi Rifle .243 Win. It should not be more expensive than the gun. Due to the good reviews an the low price at opticsplanet.com I ordered the Mueller Optics 3-9x40mm Sport Dot German #4 Reticle Riflescope. I waited seven weeks (the customs appears to be rather slowly), mounted it on my Handi Rifle wasn't disappointed: This scope is great value for the price. Of course not comparable with my much more expensiv...

Mueller Optics 3-9x40mm Sport Dot German #4 Reticle

by SteveTexas, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on January 12, 2021
This is my first Mueller scope. Mounted it on my Marlin 444s to extend my range of accuracy. I’m very happy with the results and would recommend this scope to fellow budget minded shooters. It’s also my first scope with the German #4 reticle and it’s now my favorite.
Pros:
  • Clear optics
  • So far, great performance at 100yds
  • lighted reticle is great for twilight hours
  • German #4 reticle is outstanding
Cons:
  • None for me
Best Used for:
  • Hunting 10yd - 300yds
Would recommend: Yes

Reticle lens developed thousands of spots

by Cody, from TN, United States Written on June 15, 2018
Was very proud of this scope when I bought it. It is everything everyone says. But after a few years I got it out of the case I store my rifle in and the reticle lens is covered in spots. It look like some kind of bacteria under a microscope slide. The scope is still usable but barely. My scope is very lightly used and still looks brand new. Mueller will not repair an obvious manufacturer defect because I don't have the receipt anyore. These modern receipts fade to blank in a few years anyway. I replaced it with a used Leupold. They stand behind their product no matter who bought it or when. I just can't put any $ in a Mueller product again. Poor warranty.
Pros:
  • Bright and clear
Cons:
  • Keep your receipt in an airtight safe place. No warranty without it no matter what.
Best Used for:
  • hunting

Great Value

The clarity and light-gathering capabilities are very good & the illuminated reticle is a great feature. The only feature lacking is adjustable parallax. Targets are a bit fuzzy at 25 yards when siting in, but clear enough to get the job done. Mueller is a great brand.

Great scope

by smallfry, from UT, United States Written on October 17, 2014
I was fighting between getting this or the redfield revolution. I finally went with the mueller. When I got it I was very happy with the glass, it is very clear over the hole lense. I stuck it on my new Savage/Stevens 200 7mm rem. mag. and it has performed beautifully. I compared it to my brothers leupold vx-2 and it was noticably clearer. I love the sport dot and the illumination is very nice for hunting.
Pros:
  • durable
  • illuminated reticule
  • easy to zero and to operate
  • nice glass
Cons:
  • None what so ever

Mueller Optics 3-9x40mm sport dot

by Steve, from MD, United States Written on September 10, 2014
This product seems very good, mounted well on a lever action 30-30 and is easy to use and is accurate. I recommend it to anyone who wants a decent scope but does not shoot that often and does not need to spend several hundred dollars.

You really can't do better for your money

by Legacy Reviewer, from GA, United States Written on January 2, 2014
I've had this scope for ~6 months now. Initial impressions of quality and clarity were high, and remain so. Starts to lose clarity at edges around 8x but still good. At about 3x-7.5x it's comparable to the glass on my older Leupold Vari-X III 1.5-5x20mm. I have the Mueller mounted on my Remington Model Seven in 7mm-08. After bore sighting at home, it took only a handful of shots to get zeroed and get a 1-MOA group at 100yrds w/ factory ammo - the 1/8MOA adjustments are positive and accurate. It's held zero through ~20 rds so far - and the recoil on this 6 1/2 pound carbine is rather harsh. Awesome scope and I love the #4 reticle. In early December I was able to test it in real-world rain/fog/humidity/overcast conditions in North-western Georgia. Performed perfectly, didn't fog up, and the illuminated dot helped tremendously on that 15 min before sunrise Bobcat. I'm sold on Mueller and don't think you can get a better value for your dollar under $300.
Pros: Optics clarity, features, sight picture, price, quality

Great Value

Used Tally Rings and Base to install my Sport Dot 3 X 9 on my Savage 14 in 308. First shot was only 1.5" right and 1" high at 100 yds. Had it zeroed in with 5 shots and 5 minutes. In and out of truck many times before next shot, and had not lost zero. Nice eye relief and easy target acquisition. I don't own a $1000 scope but after using this, why would I.
Pros: Very clear sight picture, ease of zeroing
Cons: lense covers are a pain to hang onto when removed

Goes beyond expectations

by Legacy Reviewer, from WA, United States Written on April 3, 2012
I bought this scope for my Crossbow for some longer range target shooting and hunting. My eyes are not the same as in the earlier days so a scope like this one with the sport dot was very important to me. When I pulled this scope out of the box and put it up to my eye the retical was perfect for my needs and was VERY clear. I had to do a double take as I couldnt believe how nice the scope looked. Then I started to think DAMN I only paid 159.00 for this. With 11 positions in adjustment for the brightness of the red dot it allows to to get exactally what brightness you need or want. Also it goes to a very low level of light so not to overwhelm the target when the brightness cant go low enough. This scope goes nice and low so NOT to drown out the target at last lite when the big buck comes out.

Great scope and when I get another crossbow and need a scope THIS IS THE ONE I AM GOING TO GET.

Very impressed...VERY VERY IMPRESSED

Brian
