Old Sarge's Review of NcSTAR 2906 Soft Gun Case, 36-42in

This case is intended for iron-sighted, or, up to a point, scoped rifles. It's a repeat buy for me; I bought one a few years ago for a multi-generation .22 rifle for one of my grandsons, and it's worked fine for him. This purchase (and probably future ones) is for any of our B92/B53/R92/M94 iron-sighted lever carbines. Initially, I was leery of the accessory pocket being on the "wrong" side, but that hasn't been an issue. There is room in the pocket for an ear-plug case, a bore snake, a small solvent/oil bottle, a rifle bolt, and either a shooting glasses case, a flat 20-round rifle ammo box, a couple boxes of .22, or a .30 Carbine/10-22 sized magazine. There are some positioning straps inside the pocket, but we haven't discovered any particular use for them. There are NO positioning straps inside the case. The case has a good amount of padding, nice two-way zipper pulls, a pair of wrap-around carrying handles, and a decent shoulder strap. The term that keeps occurring to my military mind is "serviceable".
This is not a premium item, but a good basic utilitarian case for a lighter-weight rifle that has iron sights and/or a compact, low-mounted optic. Although it has plenty of padding, we do not believe it would have a good service life as a knock-around, throw-it-in-the-back-of-the-truck item, as the outer shell does not seem to be of a heavy-duty material such as Cordura, but a thinner nylon, but we do consider it a useful kid's, go-to-the-range or loaner case.
Pros:
  • Good padding, handles, strap, zippers.
Cons:
  • No internal straps, thin shell.
Best Used for:
  • Basic case for non-AR rifles.
