HaydenGC's Review of NcSTAR Laser Sight Box

The green laser on this product is very bright. Adjustments feel loose, but seem to hold zero. Quick detach system easy to adjust, but minor play is observed. Battery compartment spring too small, as blunt force on the end cap, or a range trip of shooting will interrupt the connection, requiring me to remove the battery cap and twist back on.
The buttons on the unit are responsive, I have observed that on several, yet infrequent, occasions, the temporary buttons stick, allowing the unit to continuously display the laser. This requires me to depress the static button to disable it. The pressure pad is typical of Chinese products, although not as "Mushy" as many others. It is very small, so there aren't any rail covers or traditional attachment methods (that I know of) that work with this pad. Use of twist ties seem to lay on one of the buttons, so the rubber tire method would be suggested. It inserts into the unit by means of a 3.5 mini jack, so there may be flexibility to use other pads, but haven't taken the time to look into that.
I ordered the green/IR laser combo, but received the Green/track light unit. Oddly enough, the box and sticker on the unit suggests my original purchase. Nonetheless, shows the QC of NCStar.
The over all construction of the unit of decent. All aluminum construction. Appears that it may be water resistant, o ring sealed by battery, but where the laser/lights are housed appears to not be. I haven't tried nor care to...
On one end, for the price you get a very bright and usable laser. On the other hand, you get similar spotty performance one should expect for purchasing a laser emitter at this price point. After several months of use and approximately 1k rounds of 5.56 and .223, I feel that this is barley usable for plinking, and definitely not a dependable unit.
Pros:
  • Construction
  • Bright laser
Cons:
  • Quality
Best Used for:
  • plinking
  • Aesthetics
