Fits maverick 88 security 7+1 with 20" barrel - NCSTAR ShotGun Rails Bayonet Mount Mossberg 500

A good combination bayonet mount/front sling swivel/tactical light-laser mount. I read the reviews and knew about a few fitment issues beforehand. I installed the largest piece first (on a Maverick 88 with 20" barrel) but it needed a shim to make it fit tight. I used one layer of 3M 3340 (thin aluminum tape) on the inside diameter of the piece and it fit snugly; use a second layer of tape if you need to. The end cap that supports the bayonet ring was too tight and would not install by hand. It needed to be hollowed out slightly to fit over the knurled take-down screw so I used a 1/2" Dremel sanding drum to slowly remove material from the inside diameter until it fit loosely but snugly, then used the mounting screw to lock it down. The mount is highly modular; you can remove both Picatinny rails, or remove just one. You can remove the sling swivel if you do not need it. However, the swivel allows you to use a regular length sling since some slings might be at their adjustment limit if you use the factory sling mount on the end of the mag tube/take-down screw. You can use just the sling swivel and Picatinny rails and leave off the part that holds the bayonet ring if you desire. Item is forged aluminum with a matte black coating, it is not made of steel but it is fairly hefty. It is possible the steel screws will react with the aluminum (galvanic corrosion) so If you want to take it off in 5 years, maybe use some anti-seize on the screws. Blue Loctite can be used to keep the screws tight.

When I wrote this review the first time, both the Mossberg and Remington versions were under the same listing. But now my Mossberg bayonet mount review is at the listing for the Remington version and makes no sense. Original USGI M7 bayonets fit this mount. I have not tried a USGI M9 (and don’t want to, they are too heavy and clunky) but they should also fit. Be aware that bayonets in general fit loosely and rattle a bit on the M16 (loose tolerances by design) and this is no different.
