I bought an NcStar SKS Gas Tube Rail Mount for my SKS, along with hardware for a trigger spring replacement and a new walnut stock. The walnut stock was custom so it took a while. When the product arrived, I inspected it and it looked to be well built and sturdy. Nothing was loose, it was a solid piece. When I went to field strip the SKS, everything worked well in terms of replacement parts EXCEPT this product. The gas piston from my SKS had a diameter that exceeded the inside diameter of the NcStar gas tube by a few thousandths. Is wasn't much, but enough that the end of the piston simply wouldn't fit inside the gas tube. I've seen posts about having to remove paint or materials to make it work, but I don't have the tools nor the inclination to do that. I'm trying to send it back. Do not buy, this product is dimensionally wrong.

It is very stable and seems to work well. It did take a good bit of fitting to get it on. I had to loosen all the screws and then adjust it in order to line up the gas tube properly but once I got it on I was very happy with it. I mounted a Vortex Crossfire 2-7x Scout Scope on it and it works perfectly. It gives the appropriate amount of eye relief for that scope, not sure about others. I will have to see if it holds zero after shooting a lot more rounds through it but it seems very stable and secure, far better than the previous scope mount I had.
Pros:
- Very stable, perfect eye relief for forward mount scope
Cons:
- Required a lot of fitting to get it on
Best Used for:
- Forward mount scope, scout scope

It took a bit to fit the mount to my SKS but it was worth it. I used a file and some medium grit sandpaper. Took a few hours but it fits very snug with zero play. Plus I didn’t have to remove the rear sight or permanently modify the firearm in any way.
Pros:
- rock solid
- no permanent rifle modifications necessary
- custom fit

Took me 3 hours with a 20 year old metal file to cut it down to a tight and forceful fit.
Remove the rail mount screws from the tube for an easier time filing.
Make sure to keep both the gas tube and file level.
Keeping the tube’s surface area from being lopsided.
I’ve paired this with a KPM Side Bipod adding 1.25 pounds. Traditional SKS Bipod’s can be lighter at .56 pounds.
The KPM bipod barely helps with felt recoil
Think of it like a seesaw, with the bipod as the fulcrum.
But it holds the SKS weight more evenly(as a fulcrum) which is what I’ve been looking for.
Pros:
- smooth action
- Less felt recoil
Best Used for:
- Recoil Reduction
- reduced muzzle climb

Arrived promptly and gas tube was .033” too long so fitting was required. I filed rear section in accordance with instructions and I also chamfered inside muzzle end of gas tube to get it to fit over gas block. After several iterations it tapped in nicely. Will test fire and update as required but it looks good to go. Color matches well too.
Pros:
- As advertised. Nice fit and great look.

Used on Norinco type 56 SKS required Minor modification with a file but is explained in instructions (due to variations in rifle manufacturing) other than that I am quite satisfied with the product decent quality Machining and detailed instructions.
Pros:
- Quality, detailed instructions
Best Used for:
- SKS upgrade/modernization

Appears to be well made, but took awhile to fit to the rifle with some careful filing (maybe a good thing). Appears to be pretty stable. Haven't had a chance to actually try it out yet.
Cons:
- Took awhile to fit, and a bit heavy

I bought this to add on my Norinco SKS after finding a Tapco stock and realizing that the tapco gas tube cover would be a horrible mount for my optic. Some people note having issues with gas piston fitment, however with my specific rifle, it functions perfectly with the factory piston installed. Filing down the gas tube to fit was straight forward, although in order to get it to sit on the tapco stock properly, I had to loosen the rail from the tube, seat the tube, then tighten it back up. Gun is now sighted in and has held zero with no issues, I’m very happy that these are available given the high price of replacement factory gas tubes, and the seeming lack of quality of other options!
Pros:
- Easy to install
- Holds zero
- quality part
Best Used for:
- accessories
- Optics mounting

So, just as was stated in the description of the item, and in the instructions included, some modification was required to get it to fit. BUT, with time, patience, a file, and emery paper, I got it to fit. The end that, in the instructions says to file at a 45 degree angle, was about 1.5mm too long. And the 45 degree angle filing is to have the hand-guard catch be able to close. In the end though, still a great product. Plus, you can now keep the bayonet on its lug and throw side bipods on the hand-guard!

Article arrived on time. Was packaged well. Minor fitting work required. Solidly built and quite hefty. Coating is consistent and seems to wear bell to use. Knowing my PARATROOPER isn’t really a sniper rifle can’t wait to get a scope for this trip.
