Daniel Eichelberger's Review of New Frontier Armory New Frontier C10 Upper Recvr Ar10 Stripped Billet Black
The New Frontier Armory upper offers several desirable features, such as the set screw for install of the forward assist; it also features a large and nicely designed cut out for the bolt release.
The C10 also mates nicely with the New Frontier lower. The fit is tight and snug. Additionally, the tolerances with a Faxon Match Grade Barrel were very tight, but in a good way. The barrel did not slip in, but it also didn't need to be pounded into the receiver.
However, the anodizing on this upper is unacceptable and New Frontier ought to be embarrassed with such shoddy anodizing. The black is a noticeably flat sheen. When touched, it leaves an almost white, nearly powdery residue on the finish. Imagine a light chalky smear with every touch of the finger.
If you plan on cerakoting this upper, then the anodizing is a plus since it's extremely easy to remove with sand blasting, almost embarrassingly so. However, if you don't plan on having this upper receiver cerakoted, then I highly recommend passing on this upper. The finish is atrocious and, I would suspect, it would leave most end-users dissatisfied in the longterm if not immediately dissatisfied.
